Here is the analogy.

somalian has 1 banana...nigerian has 1000 bananas. Somalian gains 1 more banana means that he has 100% increase/growth...nigerian gets 10 more bananas...means he has 10% growth. Nigerian still has a thousand times more bananas than somalian even though the somalian has 10 times the growth. Its all relative.

Other than poor and corrupt management it might be to do with oil for some, I know in Nigeria the elites try not to diversify away from it and kinda stagnant the country, also oil prices are dropping and hurts their economy.With other countries like Ghana they're in huge debt which also hurts progress.Also some countries in west africa were always shit and never showed much progress such as Niger and Liberia so they pull the average down
