Wanqal or aqeeqah in arabic is when sheep is sacrificed to celebrate the birth of a child.

Afartan bax is when the mother and the newborn child leave the house for the first time together. It's also a custom that the child is carried outside by a very special person to the family. Sometimes the mother carries out the baby.

There's also a celebration when the woman returns to her parents home for the first time after the wedding. To celebrate that they use slaughter a camel. I was lucky enough to attend such a celebration of my aunt in miyiga mudug

Not do much sun light but they don't even step outside for fresh air. I remember this from when my aunt gave birth to my cousin. I couldn't take her outside. but I guess geeljires were fed up with countless children dying so they took no risks. :ftw9nwa:
subxanaka yacadiim.
I hate myself for laughing at people who are harming innocent women but this very wrong.
They think they doing the right thing when they are doing the opposite.

It's a dumb thing where a women who has given birth is not allowed to go out for any reason or do any house chores (I guess because somali women use to die so much during childbirth? Ionno) on the 40th day she and the child can see the sun. There's a little party (I guess to mark the survival?) lolol

It's done in every region but It's a very embarrassing tradition. Very peculiar.
What?:what1::umwhat:
Even I know what afartan bax about:what: The new hooyo is cared for during these 40 days by the females in the family and/or relatives. As you mentioned, during these 40 days the woman doesn't do any house chores because she's supposed to rest and let her body recover but she's also taught by the other females how take care, breastfeed and bond with the new baby. The woman recieves all different kind of gifts for example money, clothes, Adhi(in the miyi) and baby stuff. They don't get locked in a room abaayo, they get spoiled :damedamn:

@daacad this ^^^and on the 40th day, they throw a big party, sing, dance and eat all kind of somali sweets
