This language should be banned in Somalia just like how Kurdish is banned in Turkey.
You can not ban dialects. If they ban af maymay they should also ban that bullshit they speak in xamarThis language should be banned in Somalia just like how Kurdish is banned in Turkey.
I think Apollo was just joking.
You guys generally seem to have an irreverent sense of humour, and it's pretty deadpan
It isn't a foreign language though? Nor are af May speakers a seperate ethnic group? Their language is interwoven with our ancient history. I wish we had proper linguists and historicans study how af May came to be. For all we know, they could be speaking a closer version of the language spoken by our ancestors.

I thought he was joking too at first. But then I remembered, he is the same guy that wants to deport foreigners from Somali.
Unfortunately, he's a right wing nationalist, but probably the biggest socialist in Germany lol.
Nah, I am serious. It should be banned from the education system (both public and private schools), government communications/documents, and no public signs should be allowed to be written in it. Eventually it will die out or become more like regular Af-Somali.
Af-Maay is pretty useless. It is close enough to regular Af-Somali anyway. No need to have multiple languages in one country. It only leads to issues further down the road.
So you want to deprive those speakers of their language and identity?
How is that not a recipe for anger, resentment and conflict? It’s not as though everybody in Somalia will have to speak that very particular language.
You’ll find youth that speak dialect in southern Italy than northern. They seem to hold onto it more. Could be also that southern Italians migrating to the north in big numbers so that might play into northerners not speaking it as much, expecially in Turin where a lot of the residents came from the south. Most of it is dialect with Italian but nonetheless is spoken more in south.France, Italy, Germany all incentivized the standard version of their languages and disincentivized the divergent dialects.
The difference between Plattdeutsch vs Bavarian / or Piedmontese/Lombardian vs Sicilian was as big or even bigger than the two version of Somali.
Almost none of the youth speak dialects in those countries.
kulaha ban bulshit in mogadishu, nigga you hargeisa boys speak like hillbilies with your ''dee dee'' unintelligibles, all of you sound like an agrresive rednecks. You can not ban dialects. If they ban af maymay they should also ban that bullshit they speak in xamar

Lool.. Just because it sound weird doesn't mean it's ancient.. Maybe some khat head khaldans left the north for the south and started chewing banana leaves and then af May was formedIt isn't a foreign language though? I get the vibe most reer baydhabo people are humble.Somalis worrying about stupid shit again, who cares if they speak a different dialect? Nobody has the same energy for Bajunis or Barawanis for speaking their own languages either while you guys are getting worked up about a mere dialect. Worrying about the wrong things mate

I feel like maay and Maxaa are like old English and modern English. A modern English speaker wouldn't be able to understand old English but the two languages are closely related. It sounds like Oromo to me tbh, but I guess in a way it is Somali.
Hindi and Urdu are more closely related than Af-Maay and Af-Maxaa, yet Hindi and Urdu are considered different languages purely for political reasons.
Politics matter just as much as linguistics in determining what is considered the same language or not
Yes Maxaa has many many more arabic loanwords than MaayI feel like maay and Maxaa are like old English and modern English. A modern English speaker wouldn't be able to understand old English but the two languages are closely related.
My theory is that maxaa is an arabized and more semiticized form of Maay which is probably closer to what somalis spoke before islam.
