For those with ADHD, the parts of the brain that control attention, focus, and reward don’t get enough dopamine like in people without ADHD. So, ADHD medicine helps by activating the neurons that release dopamine and other chemicals, so the brain works better.
But if you don’t have ADHD and take the medicine, your brain can get flooded with extra dopamine that it doesn’t need. When that happens, your brain might start reducing the neurons that handle dopamine, which isn’t good for your brain in the long run.
