Addis Ababa is starting to look reaaaaally good

Why haven't Somalis in galbeed moved into Adddis yet? Lots of Somalis in other African capitals like Nairobi
Some somalis are working in the central government but other than that theres no real opportunities in Addis if we being honest

For example I saw a tweet by a kenyan who was pointing out how it was weird that there are nearly no billboards as you see in Nairobi or Xamar

It’s a beautiful city, won’t deny that. But that country has issues beyond belief. If you take out the civil unrest, there are over 25 million people experiencing famine, their economy is in utter tatters, so much so that an Ethiopian buying a loft of bread is equivalent to an American buying a Kia, the government doesn’t control nearly half of the country, unemployment is amongst the highest in the world, tribal conflicts are worse then Somalia (and that says alot), approx 250,000 Ethiopian flee the country annually, the list goes on. And yet the ā€œsupreme leaderā€ spends vast amounts of money on shiny new buildings. I suppose that’s the norm in Africa, carry on.

Some parts of Addis Ababa looks nice is the true statement. As it’s been discussed to death on this forum, ethiopias economy is all smoke and mirrors (as are many of the African economies people gloat about, cough cough Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Nigeria, cough cough. It doesn’t change the facts on the ground - the average Somali lives a much better life than the average Ethiopian (and dare I say much of Africa).

I find that so bizarre

Addis is the richest city in the horn right now, ill take stability over a fragmented stagnating country with no future anytime

You would be surprised what a few well placed photos can achieve.

I've been to Addis and it looks shiny on the surface, but on the ground reality is different. It also has the same miserable atmosphere as London. An atmosphere that can only be achieved by horrible personalities running rampant everywhere.

i have been thinking about this a lot but i think that unless african countries get to a gdp per capita comparable to europe there will forever be huge outflows. the issue is that in this globalized world you can clearly see the difference in life between you and some person living in europe which you couldnt even fifty years ago. most of the ethiopian immigrants i see right now are clearly economic migrants, they aren't actual refugees.
