I remember visiting the Somali embassy in India with my uncle back in 2001 and witnessing the Reer Hamar ambassador still serving Somalis without a salary and no functioning government to help, after we bought a book about Somalia's history the ambassador he himself authored my uncle pleasantly asked him why he didn't sell the embassy as well since all the Somali ambassadors sold their country's embassies all over the world.
The volunteer ambassador and one man operating embassy man didn't hesitate to answer him by saying it is his duty as a Somali to protect the national proprietors of his nation even if it means generating money from his books to pay for the electricity and services of the embassy, Walahi I don't understand how ethnic Somalis are quick to sell us out while reer Hamaris are loyal and not as corrupt.
Long story short, since the civil war few Somali embassies were sold illegally and not a single person was convicted or even charged for this heinous crime specially since it is easy to find out who sold these embassies and the money can easily be tracked.
It is Not just embassies but there was many industries sold out and salvaged by Somali politicians,the Mareereey Sugar factory was scrapped by the late Ali Khalif Galayr for just 3 million bucks and even used that same money to run for a President during the Arta conference in DjIbouti and was generous enough to plead half a million to poor folks back home.
