How can y'all not know how to speak Somali when you live in London?:ayaanswag: London is basically Hargeisa with just better infrastructor. It's full of skinnies and maryoolay:siilaanyolaugh:

When you can write and speak perfect Somali. Dhirgax ala dhirgax

Listen I have to ask them to translate when am explaining something complex and they don't understand what am saying:comeon:. But I would rather be in my shoes a thousand times over then be a self hating apostates . I may be out of touch with my dhagan but I have never hated myself or my people.
Dude even if you were an Asian Muslim you are still my bro.

Am from Sheffield I just live in London for uni.

She is a say wallahi kid. It's natural for them to use wallahi at stupid times.

Girl: I ate pizza at pizza hut
PiratePrincess: Say wallahi
Say wallahi just means "really?" these days. It has no religious content. It's a bit like the English phrase Oh my God. It's just an expression of surprise, used as much by cadaan atheists as by Jesus boys. Hell, I've even seen stars yell OMG during a particularly vigorous scene in the video.

I used to get in trouble with my dugsi teacher for saying Jeez. He thought qooxda nabi Ceesa caabudo in aan ka tirsan yahay.

Don't speak for us, please. I speak fluent Somali and I've never set foot in Somalia. Did you want a round of applause or something? Boasting about not speaking your mother tongue.

I am not boasting but unfortunately that is the truth and I have completely accepted it. I may never learn Somali and if I don't then it wasn't meant to be:manny:. I have also accepted that i am a complete failure when it comes to my grasp of my culture and I can only hope that I avoid having ciyaal suuqs kids by inshallah marrying a woman who knows her deen and dhagan well.

maybe even someone like you:trumpsmirk:

You dont speak for me either. Even though I was born and raised in the west I've always known somali fluently from a young age to an extent where people back home in somalia would think I'm a local

This is a simple solution to a simple problem sxb.

Go to Somalia. Live there. Talk to the people. Grasp the language and culture again. After a few years you'll be as if you never been to the UK.

Thing is that using wallah at random unnecessary time is haram. But yes the word Is corrupted right now. I've seen a lot of people use it at random stupid time.

Why are you using jeez. Is he your saviour

That's a good option if you are not uni student and under 18 years old.

I've seen a lot of Somalis who moved to Somalia and lived for couple of years and returned as a brand new matured male.

most of my life and plans are invested in the west, I don't think I would be able to find time to do that unfortunately.

If you don't mind answering this question, where do you live?

are you reer UK

I feel really bad for you. It's not all your fault tho. It's also never too late to learn. All you have to do is try. I personally didn't have to try to learn Somali at all growing up so I could have easily ended up like you. I also didn't know this problem existed until recently. Most of you just lack confidence and I can understand why. It's because people will laugh and talk shit. I think those people are just surprised(I was too) Anyway try to learn if it bothers you and good luck.

Your first lesson is to say nacalaa kugu yaal (pronounce it as na'alaa kuku yaal) to your dad or visiting relatives. It means 'I hope you're doing fine'

It's xaraam in Christianity too. The Ten Commandments say Do not take the Lord's name in vain.

Somalis are also noted for saying "laa ilaha!" when they want to express surprise. Which of course literally means There is no God. There are wadaads who claim that a person who says this has to take the shahadah again because it is an expression of kufr and he has left Islam. If that is the case, every Somali is a kafir because we've all said it. I disagree with that extreme fatwa. You have to consider the intended meaning behind the utterance, not just the literal meaning. In this case "La ilaha!" does not mean there is no God. It means something like Oh my God! or Wow! It's used to signal amazement.

Jeez is short for Jesus. Why can't I use it when he's a prophet of Islam? :).

It's such a shame. You can't be close to your parents then. Mine speak fluent English but they'd never allow me to converse in English with them.
