I think he has a criminal record or he was denied asylum therefore, detained. If u have a criminal record and have not gotten your citizenship, u r screwed basically. Nowadays malis are afraid to go to their green id interview incase their youth criminal record catches up with them. The Trump administration are enforcing full law.
In New York, one of the popular house wives series --the real housewives of new jersey--the father of 4 american kids, an italian, born in Italy but arrived in NY when he was 5 years old. He basically doesn;t know any other home than america. He is currently detained because his family did not apply for citizenship. He only had green id. and was recently jailed for tax evasion. They will deport him to Italy even though there is no family there. But at least his wife is super rich so he can buy a villa there.
