Firstly RIBA is haram, so that is an issue although you can get 0% deals.

But I need to say, what is it got to do with him? I highly doubt she’d make him pay for it, especially since she got the car before marrying him and let’s be real, whilst women do expect a man to pay for rent and and bills, most women don’t mind paying for their own car and stuff they’ve took out in their own name. In fact a woman that is taking out cars ect before marrying you, clearly intends to do this independently. It’s basic common sense.

What a weird scenario and he sounds controlling. He simply wants to control what’s in her back account. She’s dodged a bullet.

Agreed. It doesn't make sense for it to be a deal breaker this late in the process (especially not right before a wedding lol, their debts are practically yours at that stage).

But, I do think debt management (student loans, credit cards, auto, etc.) should come up in discussions early. I would want to find someone of like mind when it comes to managing finances, attitudes to riba, etc.

There’s an epic Somali saying β€œdaba aanad laheyn laguma xaaro β€œ @Basra can you translate please
Bal ina ragow, aan ka ahayn @Grigori Rasputin , yaa 'saxaro' ku hal qabsada!

The proverb, which is deluding you, my dear Rooraaye is, 'marna taagtaa, marna tabartaa', bloody 'qoti'.

Only rednecks drive pickup truck plus it is gas guzzler
Real men, who work with their hands drive trucks, mate. Metro boys with soft hands, and tiny shoulders, on the other hand, drive scooters.

Her debts are hers, especially since she took it out before marrying him and it is clearly something she intends to do by herself, if not she would have obviously have waited after marriage and asked him.

Yep, 100% I agree.

Actually, once married, the debt is theirs, and no longer hers alone. Besides, most women in the US do work, buy their cars, and manage their car payments.
Yep that is when it comes to gaalos. But even then, the woman should manage her debts separately and so should the husband, unless after marriage the husband has took on the responsibility of payment. Example, If I was to take out a mortgage with just my name, then it is mine to sort out, especially if it is before marriage.

Hmm. I can understand assets/savings being considered separate. But debt feels like it would affect the overall financial health of the family. It would make sense to pool resources to pay it off regardless of who has it.

Also, previous debts would affect the ability of couples if they try to qualify for something together, wouldn't they?

I know. I would buy a new economic brand like honda if i were shopping for a car. Use cars are wayyyy expensive with their high mileage
My 2018 hooptie is worth 30k now :ftw9nwa:

Do we know what the ruling is in Islam so far as pre marriage debt is concerned?

Correction: $1k a month

He has a point though.

keep in mind that this will be his responsibility comes January.

Is it fair to him

This is a brand new 2023 car
Oh I thought it was a one time payment of 1k which was confusing on why someone would pay interest on that and why it would be an issue but if its monthly with riba then that's more understandable then what you posted before

Bro I been seeing hoyos with pickup trucks and Im like wtf :russ:

Yes, it is becoming common now for the ladies to truck up. Actually 2 of my family members drive trucks, and when we go on trips, we take our homes with us. I am now testing this rv, thinking of taking it to Somalia Insha'Allah.

Mini vans are popular too, as a first car for the mothers.
