I think he was half-joking. From the perspective of the father he could very well see him as a pirate. I don’t think @Liltop would call himself a pirate just like that.

If you have money and a career then they don't care. Your better off trying with a Sudanese girl who lives outside of Sudan as their family would be more opened. In Sudan they still have this issue with tribalism and alot of Sudanese fathers in Sudan arrange for their daughters to marry their first and second male cousins just to avoid the potential clash of having to deal with other tribes in Sudan.
