A close brother asked for my advice about his parents who don't pray

It was one of the most concerning things I have ever heard. Parents who don't pray. He says his parents never pray and don't observe Islam. He gave me the impression that they are what the kufar say are "Cultural Muslims".

I asked him how did you learn about the Quran and Islamic teachings and he said he was learning on the weekends with other Somali kids when younger. I came to my own conclusion that his parents only enroled him so they can have a few hours of relaxation from their kids. Subhanallah it was clearly for this reason and not for the sake of Allah.

I told him you must push your parents to be practising Muslims and to be patient. I said give them a year. If not, and nothing changes, you should cut off contact with them until they decide to return to the fold. This is what we are to do despite it being painful.

I couldn't believe what I heard. I cant imagine how difficult this can be. The shame and depression it can cause. Can you fathom telling your friends that you have essentially unbeliever parents? I told him not to tell anyone this story because people will judge him for something he has no control over.

Please make dua that his parents revert. I had difficulty finishing eating while hearing about this.

Parents want the best for there kids. Even if they themselves are bad. So they sent him to dugsi because of that i believe. Never cut contact with your parents even non practicing.

I would suggest he starts praying in front of them and force them to pray or leave

But we have to cut off parents who reject prayer. This is why I said wait and be patient because it should be the last option.

The only time you can cut them off is if they tell you to do kuffar shit. They can even be non muslim and still not cut them off. They cant order you to do unislamic shit

I would say 90% of Somalis don't pray at all. The other 9% pray only Jumah and Eid prayers and the other 1% (like my parents) pray 5 times a day. You're clueless.

Half my external family don't even go to Jummah prayers.

You'd more likely find an unmolested choir boy than finding them in the masjid during the weekdays.

Nah, Somalis are mostly very religious (especially the older gen). Even a lot of the younger ones are stricter Muslims than most Arabs, Asians, etc. Going to dugsi is something most Somali kids go through

It's so strange that salat is the second pillar of Islam, yet I've seen surveys that say more Muslims fast during Ramadan than fulfil their 5 obligatory prayers. :what1: That's when you can really distinguish whether people participate out of genuine faith or simply for the sake of culture. I hope Allah (subhanu wa tala) guides his parents; it really must not be easy knowing that your parents aren't genuine believers.

I’ve never met an grown adult Somali that doesn’t pray, except for the ones that are very outwardly not religious. Younger adults, most I know pray from the girls. But I see a lot of guys that skip their prayers.

I wouldnt cut of my parents even if they became gaalo. As long as they are alive there is hope. As long as they are not working on taking you out of islam there is no excuse to cut the family off

@Lolalola

The thread starter/Op admitted here that he never fasted a single day in his entire life because he has no tolerance for hunger for more than few hours. He’s a pious Muslim on this board.

Do you think a ‘Muslim’ person who never prays or only prays occasionally just to be seen by others should have the rights for a jinasa to be prayed on them when they die?

Waryaa, if I need an advice on how to save money, I won’t go to the casino and ask a gambler. Many Salafis believe if one doesn’t pray, then, they are no longer a Muslim because they deny it to be obligatory. Let @Lolalola give us his opinion. When was the last time that you prayed? Ramadan?
All you need is faith to theoretically make it to hevean by the mercy of allah, I don’t care to much about salafis because ibn wahab and ibn taymiyah aren’t Islam the Quran and the sunnah is
