The Qarmitians were a breakaway Shia group from Bahrain who in 930 attacked makkah and massacred thousands of pilgrims. They left the bodies piling up in the streets of makkah and stole the black stone and took it with them back to Bahrain for several years.

They used to attack any pilgrims that tried to reach makkah in those years. It took the Abbasids and Fatamids to get the Qarmintans to ransom back the black stone.
