Yeah it was made the state religion in 330 AD by King Ezana. However, the Axumite/Pagan Abyssinian religion may have persisted in the hinterlands/rural areas of the Kingdom as Christianity grew in the country.

The Ethiopians neglected a lot of history up until 1991 when Zenawi got in power. The Obelisk of Axum was returned in 2005 and when they last had it it was lying derelict in a field.

True. The Ethiopian Gov't in the past done a poor job preserving the Nation's rich history, but as of now Ethiopians have been taking a serious approach to historical preservation.
