This PEW research found that more than half of US Muslims think there's a place in society for homosexuals and 64% think there are multiple ways to interpret Islam (i.e. to allow for gay marriage in the future, possibly). This is up from 2007 when 27% thought gays should be accommodated (still surprisingly high). I haven't seen a study of European Muslims but I imagine the numbers could be similar. There's hope!

Survey found that US born Muslim millennials approve of gays by 60%-40. Apparently there's also an upward trend among older Muslims and even immigrants. The US is doing something Europe isn't doing. The two-year vetting process is warranted if it yields these results. I think part of the reason for this is the isolation felt by US Muslims. They're dumped into the middle of 330 million people and a largely liberal culture. This forced them to question their own beliefs. This is in contrast to Europe where they are in ghettos and only interact with other Muslims.

Yes. I heard there are up to 10 million US Muslims and that most don't respond to religion census/surveys. Liberalism is a trend across US Muslims from all backgrounds.

The point of the post is that American Muslims are growing very liberal. I know they have no authority to interpret Islam but that doesn't matter if the followers of Islam are basically leaving it in droves. This same survey shows liberal attitudes to other things. The fact that you are triggered by any mention of gays makes me wonder.

American Muslims tend to be way less religious than their European counterparts. I was only surprised because the number was over 50% , not an overwhelming majority but still.

It's that Muslim Americans are not in large ghettos as is the case in Europe. They are forced out of their shell and forced to interact with the general population. This means more exposure to liberal culture and the stigma associated with "Islamism". Many feel uncomfortable being associated with extremism in anyway and will take drastic steps to oppose it.
