Personally I don’t like the NBA because these 6 foot 8 guys are grossly overpaid to play with a ball like children. At least it’s better than robbing people.

But Kobe was among the better ones. He was a hard worker and set a good example for black men. He was only 6’6” and relied more on skill and athleticism rather than brute, beastly strength like LeFraud or the Nigerian freak.

It's more popular in Eastern Europe and Mediterranean countries like Spain and Italy

Only NBA player people know in these places is Michael Jordan cuz he was one most popular humans on Earth, everyone knew MJ was like mythical figure in 90s

Correct that nba and basketball aren't popular however certain names transcend the sport they are from. Younger people will be more likely to know who Kobe, Steph curry, Scottie Pippin and other stars of the nba are compared to the average British person.
