If this makes anyone hopeful about the future, the Somali country itself has a great amount of potential. Somali has a large coastline in a major trading route which would give the country great advantage in trading and manufacturing goods for the world, hospitality industry & fishing industry. If the country were to modernize from the money gained from these industries, widespread education in the country would allow us to improve basic quality of life with more doctors and nurses and Somalis could contribute to the world economy by having more scientists and engineers make way to future inventions and contributions. The problem is not the country itself - but rather the bad hand Somalia was dealt with due to colonialism, and the Somali people themselves failing to improve their situation and continuing to live in primitive ways.
The main issue seems to stem from the lack of education that Somalis have as well as the self-centeredness caused by a nomadic lifestyle. This used to make sense - in a primitive lifestyle, a geeljire will spend their time herding camels and raising livestock. There was not the need for immense education, and qabilyaad allows nomadic Somalis to differentiate between close family that they can trust due to similar ancestral heritage and non-related people who could steal their livestock or property. However, when Somalia gained independence, this nomadic lifestyle continued. Europeans had an advantage over Africans when it came to development - for milleniums, Europeans found out how to farm faster than anyone else, they had domesticated animals before others, created guns before others, made scientific and societal advancements faster than others. Meanwhile Somalia was expected to quickly go from a tribalistic society and suddenly adapt to western standards of living, which is unrealistic. The question then arises - how can Somalis be made to leave a tribalistic culture and modernize?
A seemingly easy solution would be to increase security and enforce property rights - you don't need qabil anymore to help protect you because you now have a police force which will protect you, a court system that will protect you from someone stealing your land, etc. Under the threat of prison for wrongdoers, people can trust each other more, civil wars between qabils are no longer a thing, and the economy would improve subsequently improving education. However, how do you provide security, enforce property rights, and have a court system? The answer is - you need the entire society to agree to these rules. Government is a social construct, and such a solution will not work because people are not even educated on the basics of the rule of law, or the tenants of a civilized society and why they should live in a modern way. The police officer hired to "provide security" will inevitably be given cash bribes to allow some qabil to get away with some crime, nobody on the streets of Mogadishu will drive safely making it difficult to get to work and come back home in one piece, the lack of education will cause a shortage of judges and lawyers to properly enforce the law. Ultimately, businesses will refuse to invest in Somalia despite the immense potential for success because there is also incredible risk - the lack of property rights, the lack of safety and educated workforce can make it a losing investment to create a business in Somalia. Arguably, Somalia has a chicken and egg problem. You need to educate the commoner on how society functions, why they should act a certain way and give them skills to be apart of the workforce in order to leave a nomadic lifestyle and get people to modernize. Yet, in order to educate people, you need to already have a society with basic security and prosperity, as a nomadic lifestyle in the baadiyo does not need significant education. Even when people are educated in Somalia, many immigrate out in seek of better living conditions. Us diaspora Somalis who are educated have no incentive whatsoever to go back to Somalia and improve the country because we would be trading a comfortable life in western countries to live an arguably harsher life in Somalia, improving Somalia at the expense of our own well being.
Somalia has the potential for success, but will it happen in our own lifetime? The success of Europeans today did not occur in a vacuum - it took many centuries of advancement before the industrial revolution was possible. At the time of the industrial revolution, there had been many advancements made centuries prior in Europe. Obviously, Somalis do not need to reinvent things already made, but it will definitely take time for the culture to change and for new ideas to occur. The 4.5 system in Somalia is a disaster - it makes no sense for politicans to be chosen based on their ancestral lineage as opposed to their ideas and ways to improve the country. Somalia is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Someone can get away with murder by trading goats and camels to the other qabil. We Somalis are stuck in a modern world with our old ideas, and to get out of this hole we must adapt intellectually to the rest of the world.

I've gave up hope on Somalia when Hodan Naayle got killed by the bombs. Imagine trying to improve Somalia's image only to be killed.

i felt similar in somalia. i saw the chaos and poverty and dont blame the youth for trying to leave. i am against taking boats across the sea to europe but at the end of the day theyre poor youth from a hopeless place trying to make a life.

The Chinese civilisation dates back to 3500 years ago whilst our society were herding camels until 100 years ago.
For most of world history they commanded the world economy and were the richest. In 1500 Beijing was the biggest city in the world with a population of 700k.
Obviously they were bound to be a great power once again.
Burundi, lowest GDP in the world, but has troops in Somalia to help it. This is more embarrassing than having the lowest GDP.
Whilst very few civilisations in the world can compare to China, not everyone in Somalia was a camel herder until 100 years ago. We had strong cities and trading relationships and civilisations too in Somalia. China will always be a strong power.
Europeans didn't figure out how to farm, domesticate animals and create guns before anyone else. That honour goes to our cousins in the Middle East and our mates up in China. Most of Europe that wasn't Greece or Rome (those guys are OGs and I like them a lot) was irrelevant until a few hundred years ago, especially rainy Britain where I live.) The Europeans innovated and improved a lot on things and knowledge that came before them, which I like and Somalis should learn from.
