I dont even know what to say, it feels like whenever a thread is made on a topic like this the same things are said

Somalis in SA need to either arm up or leave the place, the country isn't even good anyway

Why they still leaving there? What reason that make them to stay there? @Rastavelli-67 do you have any idea?

Durban is the worst city to live in , it's located in Zulu majority province , where the market and economy are controlled by third generation Indians , the city had the highest Somali murders nationwide and the townships make Gauteng province look safe.
Any Somali living in Durban is asking to get killed, it's not worth running a Spaza there.
AUN , this another sad tragedy , over the past five months 15 killings were in Durban alone.

There are various reasons to why Somalis risk their lives in South Africa many knowing the consequences from the stories we heard from people before us but the bigger question do we have a choice ?

It's easier for these westernised somalis comfortably sitting in their sofa to judge us without understanding the full context to what led people to flee Somalia in the first place and gamble with their lives in this country.

Please take this into note ,
The generations of Somalis are two today , Qurbojoog (Diasporan) and those who had remained during the 1990's. You are part of the Diasporan generation and most likely your parents have took a similar route to several countries or was in a refugee camp before being accepted for sponsorship , Somali refugees were in despair had their reasons to escape the vicious cycle of violence, famine and clan cleansing in Somalia and ended up to the countries you're residing today. I'm not even surprised there are Geeljires as far as Kathmandu , Nepal the Himalayas lol

South Africa was a transit destination in the late 90's where people came in droves, despite the smaller numbers of people that sought asylum , it was never a desirable place to live in , many were ambitious enough that they were briefly in transit hence they were eager to embark their long journey to the Western hemisphere , ferry and getting smuggled via South America but it were a fraction of people who were successful to cover the cost of journey, others weren't so lucky and some even coerced into human trafficking since they were tricked by the smugglers , this lead to getting in debt or robbed , hence young men hustled as hawkers and vendors by time they forgot about their circumstance,
establishing small racks of shops to escape the abject poverty surrounding them.

Why are Somalis in almost every country 2020?

To escape the abject poverty , famine , the continuation of indiscrimination, the cycle of violence , the injustice killings , the random mortars landing at your house and next thing you know loved ones are dead,
The biggest killer of Somalis were the Wiifto the countless gunfires and mortars launched by handicapped khat intoxicated mooryaans who don't know how to properly aim their actions had led to thousands of civilian casualties.
The extremists ICU group labelling normal people who disagree with them as kuffar and having them executed as several people who had once worked for radio stations like Radio Muqdisho and Idaacada Shabeele told me how they witnessed the murder and rape of their families Infront of them leading to a large exodus to where they are today.

Ethiopian troops indiscriminately killing villagers , gang raping older women , strangling to death middle aged men with barbed wires are also the reasons.
The spinelesss mooryaans on the street hacking you to death, suicide bombings , government soldiers harassing and torturing civilians in Xalane and sometimes framing young boys to be part of AS indiscriminately parading them on live TV before their deaths, checkpoints , extortion by clan members , kidnappings the fraudulent 4.5 system
The death threats from Al Shabaab,
Al Shabaab governing your hometown , dictating what ever you do , taking your livestocks, taxing 95% of your harvest the hard of work yielding the farms and having it confiscated , your sons being drafted to their ill twisted organisation and forcing daughters to be brides for international jihadists as you watch there in agony unable to prevent them, not being able to live in your hometown without a rival clan plundering anything that moves , worse part they gather the remaining survivors inside the Mundule( hut) and burn them.
The draught and death.

These circumstances can be applied to Somalis living in South Africa.
we tried to live our lives during the worst of our times, endured the hardships by remaining in wretched Somalia these are the stories that people told me.

Given the circumstances leaving the country was necessary , we never felt secured nor safe in an unstable , warring and bipolar country.

Yes it's sad and depressing we fled a war torn nation to be in another loop of endless violence in a racially segregated country (economic apartheid)
, South Africa is not perfect country and conditions are deteriorating I will not pretend to glorify the country , xenophobia is strife and definitely not ideal place to settle but in comparison its parallel to the hell on earth we fled from.
It's true any like minded person would leave the country but as I mentioned earlier it isn't optional we live in poverty that some are even homeless and evicted , male or female work hard to make their ends meet,
we don't get any assistance from the government or any organisation , it's every man for himself .

Wallahi you're not safe anywhere on this planet as a non white. At least I live somewhere I can protect myself. You're a slave if you can't own a gun where you live.

I'd forgot to mention Kenya ,Tanzania , Mozambique and Uganda
These are the countries that most Somalis have been through via Tahriib before arriving here.
Why didn't we applied asylum in these countries instead of South Africa ?

We were seen as illegal aliens in Kenya and risked deportation or could have ended up in Dadaab , trust me life there was miserable , as there are no bright opportunities.
In Tanzania it isn't called Libya for no reason , it can be very dangerous for those who don't have papers, you don't have rights and be in limbo in Tanzanian jails for upto 10 years where rape is common , if you don't have money may God be with you , their way of discouraging illegal immigrants
Living in Uganda as statusless is a lengthy time of imprisonment.
Uganda is also a gateway to the dangerous journey up ahead towards Sudan and Libya which many Somalis are currently doing.
Life in Uganda especially in Kampala is not safe for Somalis , stories of women being raped by Ugandan police.

Mozambique is dangerous too for undocumented , they will place you in detention for years and grant you refugee status , good luck since Portuguese is spoken the language barrier.

Many preferred South Africa not just Somalis , but Nigerians, Zimbabweans , Mozambicans , Malawians , Senegalese , Ethiopians , Eritreans , Ghanaians and so many nationalities .
For various reasons this is where xenophobia stemmed from.

Bro have you considered Botswana?

Why are non whites so weak in front of whites? The toughest and strongest are so weak in front of a white face. Show that same energy! You'll kill another non white for nothing but a white guy giving you 100 years and you cry?

Many of us raised awareness among the community to carry arms or hire security contracters.

At one point I took into consideration to relocate to Botswana as close friends and relatives live and work there many are into delivering logistical goods as many geeljires are professional truck drivers.
I have been there several times , actually I have lost count how many times , the environment is different than South Africa and somalis looked happier and younger but during their time in South Africa they looked 20 years older .
, Definitely a nice country, warm and friendly people , the only problem the living expenses are ridiculously at exacerbated prices.
I have my eyes on Namibia which have my interests.

These dudes so quick to Somalis but don’t kill those whites lmao sad asf... bunch of *****es.
They don't have the guts to confront a boer or attack a white man in the cities , it wasn't a month long , during a protest in CBD this white man called a madow police a Kafir ( in Afrikaans) , the madows passer-bys just ignored and walked by , the next day the madows were justifying a lynching of a Nigerian national and protesting on the streets.

They have a perplexed inferiority and self hatred.

Is there a path to citizenship at all for Somali illegals?

Are the Somalis there predominantly undocumented or what?

My uncle would sleep under his rpg back home. I was too young to understand why but as I've gotten older I understand why. Most of us carry poison in our hearts and minds.

Mostly sought asylum upon arrival and were registered into the system,
They were in this process for weeks and months, sometimes in detention centers.
Asylum seekers are granted to earn a living and thus they are mostly in townships making a living. But the risks are too high , they still can be deregistered and marked as an alien. They are at potential risks abd have limited privileges.

There are Temporary and permanent residency status , most somalis have permanent residency , only 35 % are South African citizens.
Permanent residency are living and working , they have privileges that asylum seekers don't have , their children are allowed to study in public schools , actually Somalis established Islamic schools it wasn't like that before 2010 , they are allowed to obtain a driving license, you can get a medical checkup by only paying small insurance fee, so many enabling things and privileges that were impossible back then,
There are several procedures to go through before being eligible for citizenship ,
Many went to integration programmes and courses which is mandatory.
It mostly takes 10 years , proof of residency but many men married local women / Somali women with SA residency status and obtained citizenship within 3-5 years .
It took me a decade to be SA national , I don't regret it at all ,I can travel anywhere with ease and borders dissolve easily, years before the temptation to risk tahriib to Brazil was very high for us youngsters...

AUN to the brother and everyone else that does everything they can to feed their families. This is the just one more reason why when people tell me that life is good or great they forget about the ones who never had a chance. We are all here through struggle and sacrifice. Can you at least acknowledge this?
