What's all this fuss about Arabic and Latin script? Why not just make our own? One that accommodates Somali's idiosyncrasies. Why use the European colonizers writing system?

It simply is. There are studies showing that Arab children have worse literacy and dyslexic Arabs have it harder even when taking social class into account. It is a dumb system, just like the Chinese script.

Literacy rates have nothing to do with the script it has to do with the country you're in and their education system

Somalis are already familiar with the Arabic script they teach it in duksi from a young age it's not like we are gonna use the Chinese script

Not really. Old English was very distant from Latin. Germanic vs Italic. Almost similar to Cushitic and Semitic in distance.





That goes too far. Also, the Arabic script is objectively inferior to the Latin script as it lacks vowels.

It is so well organized so as to be almost mathematical. The writing system was systematized over the centuries so that it is perfect for writing the language. The problem is that Somali has too many long vowels and a small tonal system, it is not well suited to Somali.

Yesterday some Portuguese guy asked me how to say a certain word in Arabic and assumed I speak it, I kid you not. I got pissed off. My first and last names aren't even Arabic or Islamic.

Using the Arabic script will only increase the confusing even more.
