Yh his country was colonized by the Arabs and got raped by the Arabs.

They inherited some loan words .
Ironic coming from a Somali, whose origin lies in a country that has had much much more influence from Arabs than Ethiopia.
That comment of yours doesn't even make any sense.

There're probably a lot of root words that are shared since as a semitic language it has a common origin with Arabic.
Yeah but I want to see how many are loaned and how many are semetic in origin

There are more root words than loan words, but I am not very good at telling both apart, I check a dictionary to see it's origin if I am in doubt.
There's a book called 'Arabic Loanwords in Ethiopian Semitic' that's partially available on Google books, it mentions difficulties distinguishing root words and cognates with loanwords in the introduction's.

I know words like sä'at(time) or things like numbers are not loan words, but some others are hard to know.

The Somali language should use Modern Standard Arabic words for all the concepts it doesn't have itself. Since MSA is the most developed of the Afro-Asiatic languages that seems the most logical way to go about things instead of going for English words.

Somali sometimes embarrassingly doesn't have words for simple things like purple..

Embarrassing, but with Somali the lack of words goes deep.

Somali + English words = ugly
Somali + Arabic words = sounds natural

So I'd say go for Arabic to expand the Somali language and it will make it easy for Somalis to learn Arabic later on.

Somali is older than Arabic.

Hatshepsut = LibaxadaShuubSita,

There's even somali words in the Quran like asxaabul ayka, many of the mufassireen have said that ayka is among the ajami words in the Quran, some old head on YouTube explained it.
