Teenagers didn't quite exist at the turn of the century. Puberty was a foray into adulthood in the past. The rule book isn't the same anymore and the game has changed several times (in terms of the law and what people find socially acceptable). In fact, things guys used to do 20-years ago is intolerable today (in the west).

Tbh relations between men and women are dependent on what they want. If a man is interested in a serious relationship, he'll probably go for a woman in his level, because mutual respect is needed.

If he just wants sex, then convincing a woman who's in a lower status than him is a lot easier than going for a woman in his level or higher.

This is not to say I condone this behaviour. Just providing an explanation.

Furthermore, college is pretty much high school x2. Neither have any real world experience, most live at home, don’t pay any bills or manage finance, etc.
