It is not bigger than any of the cities listed ahead of it. I can assure you of that.


Hargaysa will be overtaken by Jigjiga in the next 5 years. Doolow in Gedo is larger than Wajaale.

ps. I fully expect Jigjiga to become a city more similar to Xamar in terms of size than to any other Somali city. Xamar and Jigjiga will be in a class of their own. I fully expect Jigjiga to become the second Somali city with a million inhabitants in the next 7 years. My Buraashadley cousins from Hargeele have all moved to Jigjiga. Crazy pull.

MJs in Afdheer is like Canadians living in Missisipi or Alabama. Most Ogadens dont typically travel south of Godey.

Jigjigas biggest advantage over Xamar is having even a semblance of property rights. I don’t think people understand just how difficult it is to do business in Xamar and how insecure your assets are even today.

Number of buildings:
Jigjiga 134,356
Hargaysa 165,243
Burco 62,494

Jigjiga is more at the level of Hargaysa than Burco. Jigjiga is more than 2.5x the size of Burco. Garissa with 77,441 buildings and Wajir with 62,856 buildings are also larger than Burco.

From Baabili to Harar all you will see is Somali owned farms. Oromo are 10-15% max in Baabili town and they contribute to the economy.

Slight differences. Moyale and Isiolo have Somalis as plurality not majority. Differences between the two is that Isiolo has other ethnic groups living there apart from Oromo and Somali. Baabili has Somalis as majority.
