Back in the middle ages, Islam played a much bigger role when the ottomans were at their peak, since they wanted to consolidate their hold on non-Turkish Muslim lands & make a more inclusive society to prevent non-Turkish Muslims from gaining independence & rebellion.

When the Western Powers founded the New World; entered the renaissance period and industrialised; that was the beginning of the end for the Ottomans, Qing Chinese & other Non-Euro great powers.
