I briefly visited an elder from my family in my hometown who was around 100 years old or a bit older. I believed she was that age. You could see it. I don't believe this man to be 120 years at all.

Most somalis over 35 can't estimate their real age. They can only use a specific events as a reference for their age or a relative of the same age range who's age is known if theyre lucky.
My mother got lucky for being able to estimate her age cause she was born the year siyad Barre took over somalia.

The ones effected the most are the one that were born during the peak of the war, so some of them are like in their mid to late 20s, but they don't even know for certain their real ages.

Many tragedy was happening during the civil war and many presidents were elected and ousted. Those who were born during the civil war can easily estimate their age by asking their family what qabiil was winning/loosing or what president was elected in Mogadishu. Even Somali nomads who weren't affected by the war can estimate their age by using all the tragedies that were happening over and over again as a reference. Precivil war born somalis are the most affected because at that time, there were very few unrest taking place and more than 80% of somalis were nomads. Only small percent of the population were obtaining birth certificate.
