We can just sit down with Yemen and negotiate on new borders so Socotra doesn’t cut into the maritime borders. We don’t need the island

Houthis are not in Socotra, I’d rather we rewrite the maritime borders so they aren’t bothering us then going to war over a dry useless island.
It’s only useless because you lack the capacity to see the Strategic importance of the island and it’s potential for security, tourism and logistics.
Now Yemenis have been stupid enough to destabilise global trade the past few weeks and I’m certain the US, western world and even China wouldn’t mind Somalia claiming sovereignty and operating on the island.

I do see its potential for tourism and security for our maritime borders, however that’s still not enough reason for us to take the island. We can still project influence in the future even without having it as ours.
We aren’t ready for this yet, we still need to take care of Al-Shabaab.
You’re not gonna project any influence on a Shia dominated Yemen it’s better to just annex the island.
the good thing for us is that Yemenis have showed the world they are a threat to global trade thus we will get a lot of backing if we claim sovereignty over the island.
Once oil is produced, we have to give them some advantages so that their people are on our side, build infrastructure for them, give them residency and access to Somalia and study there or work, and in return we can take over the island. Just imagine the amount of positives that will be for us, firstly, securing a strategic place, secondly, tourism, from which we will make millions
The inhabitants are Mahra Arabs who are naturally more inclined to us. They are not like the northern Houthis. The mainland northern Yemenis mock Socotra natives just like they mock us, they make videos of them with black skin pretending to be Socotris. A lot of them don't like the mainlanders for that reason.
Also southern Yemenis especially Hadramis and Mahra are more inclined to Somalis than their northerners. But sadly the civil war has ruined our reputation and image.

South Yemenis are basically African to be honest, even historically it was under Axum control and our gateway to Arabia, same with Mecca

Southern Yemenis are still Arabians, the majority look no different to Qataris, Saudis etc. Black Yemenis are a minority.
