‘Israel in collapse’: 46,000 businesses forced to close since 7 Oct

Forty-six thousand Israeli businesses have been forced to shut as a result of the ongoing war and its devastating effect on the economy, Hebrew newspaper Maariv reported on 10 July, referring to Israel as a “country in collapse.”

“This is a very high number that encompasses many sectors. About 77 percent of the businesses that have been closed since the beginning of the war, which make up about 35,000 businesses, are small businesses with up to five employees, and are the most vulnerable in the economy,” Yoel Amir, CEO of Israeli information services and credit risk management firm, CofaceBdi, told Maariv.

The report adds that “the most vulnerable industries are the construction industry, and as a result also the entire ecosystem that operates around it: ceramics, air conditioning, aluminum, building materials, and more – All of these were significantly damaged,” according to CofaceBdi’s risk ratings.

The trade sector has also been severely affected. This includes the service sector and industries including fashion, furniture, housewares, entertainment, transport, and tourism.

Israel is in a situation where “there is almost no foreign tourism,” the report said, adding that “damage to businesses is all over the country, and almost no sector has been spared.”

This includes the agriculture sector, which is based mainly in the south and the north – both considered active combat zones due to the threat posed by the Palestinian resistance and Lebanon’s Hezbollah – whose support front against Israel has significantly contributed to the downfall of the economy.

The CofaceBdi CEO estimates that 60,000 Israeli businesses are expected to be shut down by the end of 2024.

Hezbollah’s attacks have severely affected local business and education in the north. Tens of thousands of settlers have been forced to evacuate. “Our goal of draining the enemy’s economy … has been achieved,” Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said on 10 July.

The Yemeni army’s maritime operations have also contributed to the economy's downfall. Revenues at key ports, such as the southern port of Eilat, have fallen significantly.

In the final months of 2023, the Israeli GDP plummeted by nearly 20 percent.

The threat of escalation with Hezbollah has also posed fears in Israel that any full-scale war with the Lebanese resistance would plunge the economy much deeper into the abyss. Hezbollah has demonstrated through recent video warnings that it is capable of attacking energy infrastructure such as oil refineries and gas tanks.

The war that was initiated by Hamas on Oct.7 has pretty much decimated the Isreali economy.

To add to this . Foreign investments in Isreali burgeoning high tech sectors has plummeted.

Dror Bin, CEO of the Innovation Authority, warnsed that: "The war's damage to Israel, reflected in the credit rating downgrade, could lead to decreased investments and capital inflows. In a sector dependent on foreign capital for growth, this is a significant threat. It is our duty to prevent a funding shortage scenario."

In 2024, the high-tech sector has experienced a regression to 2018 levels in business activity metrics. Notably, there has been a pronounced 55% decrease in investment in Israeli startups in 2023 and a 70% drop in venture capital fundraising compared to the 2018-2022 period.

Think about how significant this is, the tech sector accounted for 20% of Isreali GDP and 50% of its exports and now is at the brink of ruins.

It's no exaggeration what i said in another thread about how Hamas pretty much won the war in the grand scheme of things despite the losing 100-200k palestinians lives in the process:
Hamas has won the war in the grand scheme of things.

- They brought back the world spotlight the Palestine issue front & center when it was starting to fade, the most spoken about geo-political story.

-Their sucessful attack on Oct.7 and the prolonged operations in Gaza has exposed Israel’s army and much hyped military prowess as propaganda paper tigers.

- The mask of ''Right to defend itself'' is falling off with the ratio of 1200 vs 200 000.

- It halted foreign direct investments in Israel(especially in its burgeoning hi-tech sector), It decimated the Israeli economy, plunging it into a massive contraction as defense-related spending climbs past the 5% of GDP mark(billions lost on a war),

- Turned public opinion against Isreal world wide. Isreal's blatant war crimes in Gaza campaign have rendered it an overnight a pariah state whose image in the west and even in the USA is far worse than China, North Korea or Russia . Soon enough Arab and other countries will no longer normalize relationships with a nation labelled ''genocidal'' and whose leaders face prosecution by ICC

- The conduct of the war drove a wedge between Israel and its only ally, the mission critical USA.

- The internal cohesion of Isreal is crumbling infighting happening and resignations in the war cabinet and those same official launching attacks on Netanyahu,

- Isreali leaders ending up in multiple international courts, accused of a variety of crimes against humanity and war crimes.

- It stopped dead in its tracks emigration to Israel (Aliyah) and encouraged immigration by those who can from Israel, amounting to a debilitating brain drain.

Close to 200,000 Israelis are internally displaced in both the north and the south of the country, under attack from Hizbullah and from Hamas and PIJ, respectively.

And also Netanyahus days are numbered , he will be thrown in Jail and outsted by the Isreali public or political opponents soon enough.

Since the two state solution is looming over the horizon. Everyone knows that the two-state solution is an interim step towards a one state solution with a Palestinian majority.

"This [Qur’ān] is a clear statement to [all] the people and a guidance and instruction for those conscious of Allāh.

So do not weaken and do not grieve, and you will be superior if you are [true] believers.

If a wound should touch you - there has already touched the [opposing] people a wound similar to it. And these days [of varying conditions] We alternate among the people so that Allāh may make evident those who believe and [may] take to Himself from among you martyrs - and Allāh does not like the wrongdoers -

And that Allāh may purify the believers [through trials] and destroy the disbelievers.

Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while Allāh has not yet made evident those of you who fight in His cause and made evident those who are steadfast?

And you had certainly wished for death [i.e., martyrdom] before you encountered it, and you have [now] seen it [before you] while you were looking on.

Muḥammad is not but a messenger. [Other] messengers have passed on before him. So if he was to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels [to unbelief]? And he who turns back on his heels will never harm Allāh at all; but Allāh will reward the grateful.

And it is not [possible] for one to die except by permission of Allāh at a decree determined. And whoever desires the reward of this world - We will give him thereof; and whoever desires the reward of the Hereafter - We will give him thereof. And We will reward the grateful.

And how many a prophet [fought in battle and] with him fought many religious scholars. But they never lost assurance due to what afflicted them in the cause of Allāh, nor did they weaken or submit. And Allāh loves the steadfast.

And their words were not but that they said, "Our Lord, forgive us our sins and the excess [committed] in our affairs and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people."

So Allāh gave them the reward of this world and the good reward of the Hereafter. And Allāh loves the doers of good.

O you who have believed, if you obey those who disbelieve, they will turn you back on your heels, and you will [then] become losers.

But Allāh is your protector, and He is the best of helpers.

We will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieve for what they have associated with Allāh of which He had not sent down [any] authority. And their refuge will be the Fire, and wretched is the residence of the wrongdoers." 3:138-151

"...Then when he had crossed it along with those who believed with him, they said, "There is no power for us today against Goliath and his soldiers." But those who were certain that they would meet Allāh said, "How many a small company has overcome a large company by permission of Allāh. And Allāh is with the patient.

And when they went forth to [face] Goliath and his soldiers, they said, "Our Lord, pour upon us patience and plant firmly our feet and give us victory over the disbelieving people.

So they defeated them by permission of Allāh, and David killed Goliath, and Allāh gave him the kingship and wisdom [i.e., prophethood] and taught him from that which He willed. And if it were not for Allāh checking [some] people by means of others, the earth would have been corrupted, but Allāh is the possessor of bounty for the worlds." 2:249-251

They are not causalities, they were deliberately targeted, genocided and mass murdered.

They are martyrs. The Martyrs of Gaza are soaring in the Heavens.

Kind of a long post but Israel is aware of their economic losses and know that they are losing the PR war.

Let me explain:

What exactly do you mean “baiting Israel”? Are you insinuating that Hamas and Israel are the same?

Please go and make your own thread about how evil hamas is and how israel is defending themselves, it’s not relevant to this thread.

I feel like you’ve assumed that I hold a certain position on a topic and then attempt to force all my views towards this preconceived lens.

What I mean by “bait” is that Hamas knows Israel well and uses their own strength against them. The easiest way to beat a stronger enemy is to get them to punch themselves in the face.

Hamas is similar to the ANC in South Africa and uses similar methods. The goal of the ANC was also similar as stated by many historians and ex-ANC fighters themselves.

I don’t know if the ANC example is too on the nose as to how I feel about this conflict and Hamas in particular, but then again, you weren’t able to properly comprehend my other responses.
