As far as I'm aware xawaash just means spice/seasoning in Somali , but the ultimate origin of the word is Yemen.
Like most things , if something is a commonality between both cultures . 99% of the time it originated in Yemen.
Pretty sure there are other ways to extract DNA than just using collagen. I might try to email the authors, even the Buur Heybe ones which were 22,000 years older managed 1 really bad quality DNA sample.
Somalia needs a Chinese-style dictatorship that can be judged by its economic development and long-term visions.
How can a nation where the majority of the people cannot read or write even think of holding elections?
Democracy is a privilege that can only be attained after a certain level of...
We report genome-wide ancient DNA from 80 individuals in five medieval and early modern (1300-1800 CE) coastal towns, as well as people from an inland town postdating 1650 CE. Over half of the ancestry of most coastal individuals came from African ancestors; these African ancestors were...
DNA extraction failed bar one which was unfortunately too low coverage to get any meaningful data.
On the flip side, the remains were 24,000bp which is very old. Hopefully there will be more excavations in the future at the site which I believe is currently controlled by Al-Shaydaan hopefully...
Big need for a standardized dictionary and a standardized method of writing. There are too many dialectical differences that make reading and writing Somali unnecessarily confusing but there hasn't been any attempt to really standardise Af-Soomaali.
That would be nice but when have Somalis ever agreed to something together.:bell:
I remember a funny story where I showed my friend a Somali book I was reading, and he said to me don't you guys use a different script and he searched Google and brought up a picture of Far Cismaanya. Walahi that...
I agree it would be nice but also very difficult but definitely doable that's if Somalis actual put time in defending their language and history.
I love the French System of defencing their language, I have no idea why Somalis don't do that same, it always annoys me to see things that have...
I also think it looks pretty cool, would have been better if there could have been some alterations of some of the words to make them more unique and less Latin influenced.
I had a brief stint at uni where I tried learning some of the old Somali scripts, even made a few Youtube videos of...
lol, I don't mean the sounds of the letters.
What I mean is how the letters are written, the shape of some of the letters are identical to some Latin letters and obviously was some influence of Latin on the shape of those letters.
For example, how A in Far Cismaaniya is S which is obviously...
Far Cismaaniya was never really used plus has a way too much Latin influence with like half of its characters coming from Latin.
I see Somalis promoting it as a way to feel better about having a writing system before colonisation.
I once was like this as well. :farmajoyaab:
