The reason why Habesha restaurants are more popular in the west than somali restaurants is because they use their god gift brain to expand their cuisine by promoting it very well with the help of their community. Somalis are just lazy and lacking in everything. All that khat consumption but nothing in return lol

Somali food is delicious but I don’t think it will ever become popular in the West tbh.

Somali restaurants tend to be lazy they could even make a lot of sambuusas and give to people stuck in heavy traffic to market their restaurant or stand outside somewhere with alot of people and give out samples

Do you actually think folks at quruxlow will send your food with uber eats? Somali restaurants don't even answer their business calls.

They're unprofessional

The only Somali restaurant that has a good customer service is Safari and the reason being is cadaans, senators, governors even the mayor of the city eat from there. There are more cadaans than Somalis on weekdays. It's crazy but they treat their customers like royalty, the food is alright.

Because Somali restaurants target Somalis and not ajnabis. If they want to target ajnabis they need to adjust a lot and have a higher quality standard. No more too much oil and salt, not too much seasoning etc etc. But the biggest obstacle is having loud Somali customers. You cant have Becky and Samantha in one table and Ducaale devouring a hilib with his hands accross them.

It can become very popular but I have seen the restaurants in the UK they are located in the worst part of the city and are tiny and unorganised, sometimes filthy whereas in the US Somali restaurants are way more professional

UberEATS doesn't even have a lot of options, you should try bitesquad it has more options and I think there are few Somali restaurants on there.

They should invest back into the business. Most of them don’t have online websites and don’t keep records. The workers should be held to strict guidelines. Hygiene should be number one priority.

The food is taxed heavy tho. 15-16 dollars a plate :nahgirl:

Bilal restaurant in t.dot is pricey these days, $19 for a plate of rice 'n goat. I go to an Afghan restaurant and I get the same plate for $11.

Customer service is crucial if you want the business to succeed. A lot of these restaurants cater only to Somali audience with very few local ajnabis stopping by. They don’t really care about ratings, menus and friendly interactions like “thank you for visiting us” etc

But if you want to make a name for urself, you have to make everyone feel welcome, make sure to have consistent menu and not ‘whatever we have at the moment”.

I see big potential in our food tho, I have yet to meet a friend who has not enjoyed bariis with hilib and the green sauce :)
