Teen Vogue calls out Zara for culturally appropriating a Somali baati

This type of talk in a system of white supremacy only serves white people. They make all the money off of YOUR styles, they don’t get any social blowback for looking like YOU meanwhile you think wearing blue jeans is the same as the shit they’re doing to you.
In other country's , many ppl make money off white ppl's style too. It's sometimes the most cash making of them all. So we're benefiting from selling their style too.
A system of white sumpremacy? Europe/US/Canada are some of the least racist places on earth, other parts of the world you won't have such a good time.

If you think your opinion is right go do something with it. You seem to think the world is your oyster as much as it is a white mans. I want to know what have you done with it?

In my opinion though you are deluded. I swear Somali people are so naive and 30 years behind other ethnic groups in terms of politics. You don’t even know how to advocate for yourself.

Somalis culturally appropriated niiko from Bantus . It is not part of Cushitic dancing culture .

It is not cultural appropriation if other blacks use it.

Ethiopian injeera and the sambuusa and the macawiis and uunsi (latter three were culturally appropriated) was not Somali's but are part of the Somali identity.

In Africa, you have a tribe from where you derive your identity and for the most part your culture. Black is not a culture. Unless, you are clinging to N. American colour coding. So you wearing other people's attire is cultural appropriation, if they are not ethnically the same as you (and geographically further appart).
:siilaanyolaugh:Injera isn't totally Ethiopian. The macawiis is Indian. Unsi is Somali, though not unique to them. Indians don't make their samosa the same way we make sambusas. And ours is better. Look at it this way. Noodles are Chinese but Italians consider pasta their thing. Chai is Chinese but Indians co-opted that. English became the global lingua franca despite being a new language because it borrows. Innovation comes from studying what came before you and making it better.

Ethnicity is subjective. You can learn the language, be part of the people and culture and be part of an ethnicity.

Ethnicity is more precise than the Social construct you call race. Actually, in the case of Somalis - ethnicity is a better barometer for race (identifable look, near identical genetic make up, cultural commonalities, same language and lineal ties). It would be a challenge for one who is not ethnically Somali to enter into the Somali clan system, even by way of assimilation. To be Somali ones father must be Somali. However, if one is only part Somali they will rarely look full Somali unless mixed with other aesthetically similar Horn of Africans. There is also a particular genetic make up uniquely associated with us. I think you are confusing ethnicity with nationality. There is a reason, other non-Somali groups are discriminated against, sadly, because they are minorities and physically distinguishable from ethnic Somalis. The only exception to this rule are the ethnically Somali Madhibaan (which for unknown and obscure reasons are discrimated based on caste rather than race/ethnicity but this is a case of outmoded superstition).

So you can start eating raw meat and start calling it Somali food ? This wouldn’t be cultural appropriation because you share the same skin pigmentation ? I am sure there are a lot of Habesha who would disagree .

You are allowed to claim reggae , which was built by West African slave diaspora ? A Somali can start appropriating Australian Aboriginal culture because they are both black ?

You are wrong because you and other black racists operate from the premise that there is a unique “ monolithic black culture “, when in fact , there are a plethora of cultures that exist within nations and continents . Irish traveller culture is not essentially the same as other white Europeans . Somali Bantu dancing is unique to certain parts of Africa . A Nigerian would be appropriating Somali culture if they copied Dhaamto, as much as a Saudi would -the Saudis are actually closer to us by distance .

Somalis need to stop parroting Afrocentric racial politics .

You cant even pronounce a basic Somali word in the title no wonder you believe that shit you wrote :gucciwhat:

I have seen it as reed waqooyi weddings these days too .

That said , I don’t believe in this cultural appropriation nonsense .i am just saying if it exists then black people are capable of it too and even within their own nations .
no ur mistaking that with twerking.
