These are my cousin’s critique on Somali nationalism

My Honduran cousin said that the reason why Somali culture is conservative and nationalist is do to white’s influences. He also said that Somalis conquered other Africans because of self hate and to impress whites. My cousin is a pan-Africanist and believes Somalis were socialist. Let’s look at a couple of Somali proverbs.

Although the concept of a greater somalia arose in the early 20th century, somalis have originally inhabited it for hundreds of years. Greater somalia is needed to strengthen the unity and interests of the somali nation. Who is the one trying to unite africa ignorantly? Pan Africans

Africa shall never unite. We can already see the death and destruction in Congo, Nigeria, and Ethiopia when different people are forced to guzzle down labels given to them by whites such as ‘Nigeria’ which has never existed. These pan-African people are nothing but history-deniers and don’t understand that africa is the most diverse continent in the world and will never unite.


How does somali culture have white influences? If any culture has white influences, it is that of the african Americans. The truth is, they just want to annoy people for no reason. Tell him that somalis are one ethnicity and deserve one nation, that their culture is that which has been shaped by the environment they lived in and the people they traded with. Greater Somalia is a must in this large and globalist world.

Nahh, more like Islam and our culture. We take Islam very serious compared to other Muslim countries and therefore very conservative.
Our culture plays a big role aswell, tribalism and our sense of exclusiveness. If a somali couple cant marry because of their qabil difference, what makes you think we are open to non-somalis.
And also our superiority complex over other africans.

Shit, my boyfriend says that Somalis are basically Muslim neoconservatives with a superiority complex. Both me and him are baffled at why so many vote Democrat, though .

A greater Somalia is not required. But, cooperation between somali countries and regions is.
