My mum grew up in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and could buraanbur in Arabic. I used to have Arabic classes at home.

The overwhelming majority of Saudi Arabs will never use the word "Abeed" which is a slave and it is seen as derogatory, but they only use it in a hostile situation when they are orally fighting with a black person. The word 'khaal' is commonly and casually used and most black Saudis accept it. However, in my view, the word 'Khaal' is more offensive than Abeed. Accoring to the local culture, it is very common an Arab Saudi to use it in distinguishing people racially.
