They prefer conventional career paths as they think they are more stable and will contribute to social mobility that and higher social standing/status. I would say, that a career with an arts background isn't all bad, especially when combined with technical skills i.e. graphic design, UX design and so forth. You would be handsomely recompensed if you combine arts and tech. It sort of sets you apart in a way.

It's pretty much common among immigrant families. They have a limited subset of career options - a health or law professional or something in the science or tech field.
