This is one disgusting thread :susp:
Cant belive op is trying to convince us colonization was a good thing .
Dhabodhillif waste man .
OP is the type of niggar that would volunteer to polish colonial soldiers shoes .no spine having ass dhabodhilif. :kodaksmiley:

You're fool if you actually believe colonialism was a good thing

I said that upon retrospective analysis, the net effects of Italian colonialism in southern Somalia were positive :nvjpqts:. Tell me, what problems did we inherit from the Italian occupation? And how do they stack up to all the benefits we gained?

If there was no problem being under Italian occupation why did our ancestors revolt? Xawo tako didn't need to die, right ? Darwish didn't need to revolt against the English right? Because their fortresses wouldn't be bombed right? Our land wouldn't be carved like cake right ? Leading to future animosity and war with our neighbors right that is ongoing right? I repeat you're fool if you believe colonialism was good. What's so good about losing your free will? Did we ask for colonialism in the first place? :birdman::kodaksmiley:

You didn't answer my question. I said what problems did we inherit? I also asked how do they stack up against the benefits? What were the net effects of the Italian occupation of south Somalia? But I'll answer yours.

I already addressed the British presence in Somalia and acknowledged that the biggest problem we inherited were our poor borders. But they were not imposed on us by the Italians. Besides it's Siad Barre's fault we lost the war to Ethiopia anyway. If you read everything I said so far you will notice that I've been very specific. I don't consider Somaliland and North east Somalia (MJ territories) colonised. Only the south. And the occupation in the south had a net positive effect (in retrospect). Xaawo Taako and the like revolted for their independence because being a colony is an undignifying experience. I also stated that I don't support re-colonisation or anything like that. My main point in this thread was that if you look back at the Italian occupation in the south, it seems that we benefitted from it in the long term, though not necessarily due to the goodwill of the Italians

I think he's troll. Kullaha xawo tako revolted because colonialism was UNDIGNIFIED, lol. There he said it himself but at the same time he's telling us it was simultaneously good.

He also disregarded the points I gave him as he believes it didn't answer his dumb question.

We gained more than a cathedral. It's clear you didn't read everything I wrote. What does the fact that we traded with Europeans have to do with the Italian development of Muqdisho? You're deflecting and arguing emotionally. My question was simple, I'll copy and paste it:

"What problems did we inherit? I also asked how do they stack up against the benefits? What were the net effects of the Italian occupation of south Somalia?"

It's a genuine question. If you answer it with good points then I would definitely change my view.

I'm having to repeat myself. In RETROSPECT, the NET EFFECTS of the ITALIAN OCCUPATION IN THE SOUTH, had LONG-TERM BENEFITS. Colonialism is undignified but so? If you don't want to be a colony then don't get colonised. We did get colonised, but we also gained our independence. Now that we have our independence, what are the long-term consequences we have inherited from our colonial history? Let's evaluate them. Since you didn't read my post, I'll copy and paste it for you too:

"When Somalia gained independence we were in a very good position to build a fantastic nation. We had a democratically elected government, access to higher education, one of the most developed capitals in all of sub-Saharan Africa and a relatively homogeneous population. We even had af-Soomali as our official language. Compare this to some of the other countries in Africa who have a million different official languages or the ones who use English or French in government and education."

What do you think about those points? The whole point of this thread, as I've stated multiple times, is that we didn't inherit any significant problems from the Italian occupation of south Somalia.

We actually lost more than we gained.

A nation state is built on a set of shared values and history.

Somalia didn't exist before the Italians and British came.

They created this country prematurely; leaving us no chance to build a foundation for a nationhood gradually.

Quite a lot of the problems we had since independence can be attributed to this negligent way they created Somalia.

We're still missing so much of what makes a country a nation of people.
