To murder someone is soo bad. He wasted the boys life and his own. Not someone to be looked up to.
Exactly. What could drive someone to do such a thing? It's become commonplace among young Somali men though. I know a local one who got life at 18 years old for murder I think. I went to malcaamad with his sister. Prison isn't easy. I volunteer in one and what it does to families is heartbreaking. Sometimes I wonder if I should just stop the volunteering. You see and hear a lot of shit and I am not even the inmate or family member!

yh somalis always get hit with the book, their a somali who got 10 years for drug offences when a white guy got 2 for more amount
That's cos all the judges are old white men lol. This is why you should avoid crime. They call it the justice system but it isn't just/there's no justice. Read 'The Secret Barrister.'

Also, too many of you overshare on here. Careful. I don't want to be booking your hooyos into one of Her Majesty's visitor's centres when I am doing a shift.

What kind of job do you? If you don't mind me asking.
I volunteer in the visitor's centre of a London prison. I support the families by explaining how everything works in the prison system (what they can/can't bring in etc.) and do all the booking in of the visitors (social and legal).

Edit: my bad. Not legal. They get booked in by the prison officers/prison staff :)

So you're like a prison receptionist? How do you welcome people? At the end do you '' I hope to see you soon? ''

Nah. I do more than that. Like the other day, this grandmother told me to tell her toddler grandson that he wasn't going to see his dad. Had to call up the prison, find out what was going on etc. The dad got into a fight, there was a lockdown etc. I got my colleague to do it. I deal with children too. It's very complicated. People are stressed. You also get people getting arrested on a daily basis for trying to bring drugs in. Also sometimes people are not wearing the correct clothes. Women have to be dressed modestly cos all the prisoners are horny for example. I have to tell the woman that she needs to find something acceptable to wear. I could go on all day.

I actually do want to see them again because prisoners who have visitors have better outcomes.

Honestly, there are a lot of visitors so I keep it short and sweet.

"Hi, have you been here before?"

Only if your weak hearted you will do suicide everyone just rides their bangup
Committing suicide doesn't make you weak. A lot of the time, people have a diagnosable mental health condition. Mental illness is rife in prisons.

Just rides their bang up? Do you know what the re-offending rate is? It's like 44% if you are doing a sentence over 12 months. 58% for sentences shorter than that. (Rough estimates. Google for exact figures).

*shrugs*

Mate, don't act like you are law abiding citizen looool.

Criminals didn't have a good start in life a lot of the time. Lots of them had fucked up childhoods e.g. a parent in prison, or they were in care, experienced abuse etc. A lot of them also have mental health issues. I think 30% have learning difficulties, low literacy rates etc. They are basically people who fell through the cracks of various institutions. If prison was effective, you wouldn't have so many people re-offending within one year of release.

Most of the people I grew up with, not friends with but lived on my block, went to prison and we had the exact same opportunities. It’s just that I tried in school while they couldn’t be asked, it’s mostly always their fault

Do you want a nac nac? Lol. You are the exception to the rule. I can't tell you why but you are. It may be that you worked harder or it maybe that the guys who went to prison went through things you don't know about (or both). Look up adverse childhood experiences. Studies have been done. Explain why 40% (can't remember exact figure but it is high) of prisoners have been in care.

Talk to a police officer, lawyer or anyone who works in the criminal justice system and they will tell you the same thing. Even a therapist. A lot of these people are damaged from their childhoods. I don't think prison is the answer.

It's arrogant of you to talk about these things when you have never even worked in the system.

England ain’t a poor country, the education system is one of the best in the world and public schools learn mostly the same thing throughout the country.
I don’t care if prison ain’t the answer it’s not hard to be educated in London and except for those who are SEN and/or have learning difficulties it’s a fact that most dont try. And even when they do you see them on YouTube talking about killing people after a petty argument. Saying that criminals don’t deserve to be in prison is not right. They are criminals end of.
Horta, do you know how many people get let off by judges for killing people as they claim self defence but they go back to doing the same thing. They didn’t even taste prison and there going back to the court room.

Anyway it’s 2:16 I’ll respond to you when I wake up I’m getting tired

Again, tell me why so many prisoners have been in care?

My point is prison isn't working. What is the point of locking up non-violent first time offenders for example? Our prisons are over-crowded. They are bursting to the brims and not safe. You have high levels of violence with prisoners kiĺling other prisoners as well as themselves. When it comes to re-offending rates, some European countries have rates in the 20s whereas ours are in the 40s (minimum).

The government even once banned - or maybe tried to ban- prisoners from getting books. How is that going to help anyone? Now things are decent and if you drop me off 5 books, i can get it to your loved one in prison. They just want to appear as if they are tough on crime. They don't care about reducing re-offending or whether it makes sense.

Also there are too many drugs and phones in prison. Spice is a serious problem.

You also have legal aid cuts etc. If you are wrongly accused of a crime, you might not be able to adequately defend yourself against the state these days.

At the end of the day, BME person comes off worse. Somalis are more likely to get stiffer sentences than their White counterparts because most judges are White middle class old men - from magistrates to crown court. I considered becoming a magistrates but I am not playing such a big part in this joke of a system.

It’s a fact whites get privileges but we can’t do anything about that it’s their country.

Forget talking about people in care homes and prison being bad, tell my why prisons are filled with people like this

I know of Somali Mothers who have at least 3-4 sons in prison.I know of a woman whose Son is doing a murder charge and 3 of her other sons are criminals .I wouldn’t surprised if the youngest hasn’t joined in by now .It’s deep.

Only a strange fellow would call being surrounded by other men 24 hrs a day light work .
