Somaliland's biggest priority should be establishing relationships with Israel and China as well as Russia

I agree we should strive on having relations with the Holy Jewish state of Israel......they can help us in a lot of fields particularly agriculture.......the sons of the Biblical Isaac and the Somali Isaac should come together.....f*ck the arabs if they start throwing tantrums .....our interest should come before all...... :deargod:

^^ Sland is highly dependent on livestock exports to Arabia. If you guys have diplomatic relations with Israel the Saudis will slap some big tariffs on your goats and your nomads will starve.

That's why we need to diversify and stop exporting livestock....we need to build slaughter houses, slaughter it ourselves and ship it frozen to other countries in Europe, South and East Asia....we are too dependent on the Arabs.....we were especially hit hard in the late 90s early 2000s when they banned it.

It would be better for SL to look to other things anyway. Having an economy based on livestock is fine for basic subsistence purposes now, but sl should have an eye on the future, which surely would ideally be a more diverse economy which is open to investment from the outside. If it meant a better chance of getting recognized, upsetting the arabs would be a short term loss for long term gain.

Edit: And we all know the arabs have tried to starve sl before anyway and that was without sl having diplomatic relations with israel, so there's no stopping them from doing it again.

Without that IMF / World Bank credit card one can't diversify an economy from the agro-pastoral stage to the industrial stage.

Yep, which is why sl should prioritize whatever is most likely to help get sl recognized, as opposed to not upsetting the inconsistent arabs.
In the unlikely possibility that israel would recognize sl, it would likely be in exchange for a military base or something like that. I would welcome it. One countries recognition would only open the door to others.

You don't need that much money for building a few Slaughter house with freezing and packaging facilities and power plant that can keep the cost of the electricity down......this is something that can easily be built for less than 30 million dollars with some of the SL budget allocated and private companies like Dahabshiil, Indhadeero, and Omaar Group etc........can pitch in for a share and the rest of the shares can be offered to anyone who wants to contribute........the problem is too many landers just want to sit back and wait for recognition not knowing these simple things don't need billion dollar loans from the IMF or World Bank....Same thing with building the infrastructure...

@TheUnderTaker,

It aint as easy as it sounds. Many regions of the world have trade barriers, especially for agricultural and animal products (the EU does for instance). If you alienated the Arabs by being friends with Israel you are basically screwed.

As for industrialization not costing much.. lol you are out of your mind. Building up good infrastructure (railroads, pipelines, networks, power plants etc) for industrialization costs billions of dollars.

i once remember they banned it in 2009,because some deadly virus/bacteria was found on camels/goats in berbera,however,in 2015,the mogadishu gov courted the saudi where they build hmc to monitor the health of the animals brought to the kingdom.
