To be honest, it was for the better, the 'Muricans had better property rights and social systems and therefore developed to a much greater extent. Mexicans would have just wasted that land and made it third world.

Horta i've never gotten by head around why Somalia has such a small population when our culture promotes the idea of having big families. Even before the civil war we had a tiny population compared to other largely conservative nations like Mexico which has seen their population grow exponentially.

Could be many reasons, mexico saw a lot of immigrants since its inception which helped add to its population, high infant mortality rates in Somalia. But overwhelmingly agricultural societies usually have a great deal more organisation and population than non agricultural ones
