Somalia seems to be entering a drought worse than 2011 or 2017

All of the indicators are worse in October 2021 than they were in October 2016 right before the worst drought in Somali history.
The 2017 drought was actually worse than the 2011 drought, not as many people died in 2017 because international aid was so swift.
The very important nutrition alarm is actually higher in October 2021 than it was in January 2017.
This is very scary as it means that the drought is proceeding even more quickly than in 2016-2017.

World food prices are up 31% since this time last year.

Yup, its due to Somalis reliance on imported goods. Having no local production will destroy you in times of hyper inflation. Supply chains are broken by world elite to usher Great Reset, you will own nothing and be happy is their motto

Longest coastline in africa, many countries would dream to have this prized asset meanwhile somalians are fighting over fake tribes and dusty villages instead of feeding their people :mjdontkno:

Nearly 40,000 people are facing mild to moderate drought conditions, as well as moderate to severe water shortages in Puntland, Galmudug, South West, Jubaland states and Banadir region, according to local authorities and partners. The situation resulted from the failure of the October-December 2020 rainy season, a harsh January - March 2021 season and a poorly distributed March-April-June season. The worst affected areas are Middle Juba, Gedo and parts of Bay and Bakool, which are experiencing moderate drought conditions, according to FAO SWALIM. Preliminary indications are that mild to moderate drought conditions may persist in many parts of Somalia until early 2022

it's been year after year of the partially man made drought that had ravaged Somalia the past few years .
This cant be fully blamed on climate change as it's been warned earlier this year . With the right gov we couldve been more then prepared for this

The US State Department's Famine Early Warning System is projecting, with an 80% likelihood, that March-April-May rains will be insignificant and that the current drought will persist past the 2022 Gu rainy season.

This has also been the worst Deyr (fall rainy season) in 40 years, worse than 2010.

The US and the Europeans have allocated almost $800 million to Somalia this year, but even that huge sum of money does not look to be enough. Somalia's population has grown by more than 40% since 2010. The amount of aid necessary to just halt further deterioration grows significantly each year.

Keep in mind that the situation in Afghanistan dwarfs that of Somalia in scale. Afghanistan will be competing for attention an aid in 2022 as it completes it collapse under Taliban rule. Somalia may be forgotten until famine is declared and it is too late.

And this month too.

Any Charity or even the Diaspora need to encourage the construction of a dam which will definitely improve the situation if Nomads convert to agriculturalists.

But thats a dream since Alshabab is in control of most of the Middle Shabelle/a good portion of Jubaland.

There's no water. It's dry. Crops fail.

Puntland republic 🇸🇱

I feel such anger and helplessness watching this. While these so called somali politicans fight for power among themselfs the people are starving, we have been starving for 30 years, same problem every year. We truly are cursed with bad leadership.
