Paying for rent/housing is tribute, extortion and theft

This entire system is insane and unsustainable in both financial and social terms; it needs to be replaced, but vested interests make that all but impossible

Let's imagine that our continent escapes poverty... we would be wise to not follow the current model.

Every family should be constitutionally guaranteed a certain size in plots of land; the materials required to build a house should be produced by Statutory corporations (created by Acts of Parliament), with the prices of the building materials being set to cover production costs and other overheads.

People would only have to pay for the cost of materials and the cost of labour; you could then establish State owned banks to issue locked-in interest free loans in order to expedite home ownership rates

This society is heading for collapse and this is one of the main reason. The government should have stepped in long time ago and increased supply, but the game is rigged and it's bigger than just votes of landowners and other leaches that want to make money from nothing.

They want to reduce population, and there is no better way to do this than price the majority out.

What hurts most is the state of the third world, the same things are happening there too, soon everyone will be priced out, there is no social housing in the third world, and the real estate markets dominated by giants.

We are going back to the era were you will need to build your own home, that's what they did in the past too, plenty of YouTube videos of people doing this, but it requires upskilling, discipline and work ethic, something severely lacking in our generation

You just need to pay for the materials and land, way cheaper than taking out a mortgage or renting for decades at ridiculous rates, but it needs to be done back home as the rules and regulations her are set in such a way to make it impossible.

I don't have issues with homeowners per say, it's the manipulation of the supply and free market, that leads to these artificial inflated prices and insatiable greed.

@World is right. Politicians of all stripes help landlords / homeowners by ensuring the housing crisis isn't addressed. They do this because a majority of people own homes, so it would be politically challenging to address it.

They don't leave housing to the 'free markets' either. Whenever there's a risk of house price collapse, the government intervenes to protect the interests of home owners + landlords.

Now we are discussing the topic, I have for a while considering to buy my own house or an apartment, but this requires me to take a bank loan which I'm told is haram.. But if it impossible to find an Islamic bank loan what is the ruling? Mind you when you're renting you could also potentially be paying interests through the landlords bank loans etc...

I really urge you to not to deal with riba or take any riba loan

"It is not permissible to buy a house or anything else by means of riba, whether that is in a Muslim country or non-Muslim country, because of the general meaning of the evidence which forbids riba and curses the one who consumes it and the one who pays it. This is the view of the majority of scholars."

Go back 200 years ago, whether in an urban, agriculture, or nomadic society, people historically owned their homes or paid very little in rent.

We have gone through two industrial revolutions and are currently going through an AI revolution, so much wealth is generated in the world today compared to 200 years ago. We are so much richer. So much more technologically advanced.

What is so different to a home 200 years ago to today? It’s nothing more than a building with rooms inside. So why, with all the wealth generated in the world today, do people pay 50 % of the wealth they generate on something that hasn’t changed for the past 200 years? What is so innovate about homes today whereby you could live in a large city with one million people in the past and pay 5 % of your wealth for rent as a blacksmith, but a Doctor today pays 35 % of their wealth annually on rent?

What do landlords do with this wealth? What value do they provide? They do not provide any value, and there is no reason why rent couldn’t cost 5 % of your salary.

If a government provided social housing in mass, they would not only generate revenue even at cheap rent, but they would solve the housing crisis that many countries are facing. The average person would have much more disposable income to spend which is stolen by landlords with no value other than hoarding wealth, and it would benefit the economy just as much as the well-being of the average person in society. It’s a win-win.

But because landowners are the biggest and most reliable voting bloc, solving the housing crisis is not in their interest. So they would simply vote against any government that would solve the housing crisis.

When a kingdom was faced with the threat of invasion from another more powerful kingdom, and they are told to pay tribute, they will comply because they do not have a choice. They don’t provide any value, they don’t deserve the payment, they just take it because the powerful can do what it wants.

The landowner provides no value or benefit, there is nothing more valuable about homes today than 200 years ago. Democracy gives them power to force non land owners to pay tribute to them at 50 % of their wealth.

This is not about communism or w/e, even the forefather and founder of capitalism Adam Smith agrees with this:

Walaaahi oo bilaahi oo tolaahi this is an intelligent thread and thoughts!

Rent needs to go thru a revolution. Maybe everyone own a camper home?

The West/Europe is on the decline, even cadaans are moving to south east asia or other countries where their money holds more value. The real goal should be to produce a steady income that is not contingent on location, that is real freedom.
