The Puntland parties deserve study, the two big parties are led by Deni and Diyaano who hail from the same bari region this is unlike the 3 habro parties in Somaliland. Why there is no strong parties led by leaders from the other regions?
Kaah party is stronger in Mudug some say this is due to Dani's achievements in this region and Sanaag and Mideeye is stronger in Bari/Boosaaso someone explain to me how PL parties work?

Did Eyl partake in this election or were they also hold hostage? I don’t see any updates on them.

Kaah wins Burtinle

KAAH 11 seats
Sincad 7
Mideeye 5
Ifiye 2
Mustaqbal 1

@warside @Abdalla Can the losing parties make a coalition and take the mayorship?

:jcoleno: KAAH needs to make a deal with ifiye and mustaqbal if that's the case

Yes they can, that’s what happened in Qardho. Kaah was largest but Mideeye and Sincad formed a coalition and excluded Kaah from the city administration.

In Burtinle Kaah needs to form a coalition with Ifiye and Mustaqbal to have a very narrow majority. It’s very fragile coalition if one xildhibaan tries to cause troubles.

Usually that is the case, but they can secure additional votes especially if you see how Mideeye is against changing the official parties from 3 to 5, and that may alienate Ifiye and Mustaqbal.

Mideeye was a wide spread party at the beginning. They were seen as the biggest opposition to Kaah together with Horseed, party of former president Faroole. At the beginning Mideeye had Cali Xaaji as party leader and Farah Shire, former minister of finance (Ali saleebaan). They all left when they saw Asad acting strange. Now it’s an Asad party. Asad and his mentor Burhan have a long history with Deni, it started in 2014. That’s why they were going extra hard.

At national level it may seem that the parties are led by reer bari, but at local level the parties are obviously led by the clans of the local district. At National, the reer mudug were fiercely focused on Garacad port, reer nugaal were anti elections in the first place because they thought it was their turn. This led to Reer Bari competing and vying for the votes. But alliances will be made and you’ll see more shift.

I don’t think it will be like the three Habro parties in the west. Because Puntland has a multiparty system with 5 parties getting seats, therefore you’ll need coalition to form cabinet. If the biggest party has the most votes but the other 4 can form majority, you’re in a big trouble.

How many xildhibaano have been allocated to each degmo/ gobol and are these xildhibano that will elect the next president?

These are local government elections. It's the most challenging and expensive type of elections to organise. The fact that Puntland has succesfully held these elections show how prominent and powerful they have become. Their job is to implement policies at the local level. The parliamentary elections will be easier and the next Presidential elections will be 1 man 1 vote which is why HSM is having a mental breakdown. He knows this type of voting system will have him thrown out the door.

Even Ethiopia couldn't pull off a 1 man 1 vote elections. MashAllah, I'm looking forward to seeing the results.
