Why not, they have traded with arabs for a long time.
Chad has Arabs and speaks their own Arabic dialect. This has nothing to do with trade. Might as well add the entire Muslim World & Southern Europeans if the criteria is based on trade.

Malians are just Muslim madows

I hope they get accepted and this myth of Ethiopia being this uniquely African civilization (in comparison to Somalia) dies. How can we campaign for them to join?

Next step is to move the AU headquarters the hell outta there!
I Hope Please GIF

Ethiopia is closer now to Eritrea 50/50 split of Christians and Muslims. Amhara and Tigray wars have reduced their Christian population. Oromo/Afar/Somali have higher birth rates than Amhara and Tigray. Coincidence that Drone strikes hit people coming outside of Amhara Churches or not?
No offense to Ethiopians (or full offense depending on who it is) but all of them prioritise their ethnic group before their religion.

btw Abiy is a Pente Oromo

Actually it was due to the Hanish island war
Not only that but we had gone to war with Sudan too. Within the first 5 years of independence we had gone to war with 3 different countries. Crazy times.

I don’t think it’s out of the question that Eritrea joins the Arab League now though. Eri-Saudi relations have become quite strong. Only limitation is the actual usefulness of the Arab League. Right now it’s a pretty ineffective regional bloc

Cheaper tariffs. No reason why Eritrea can’t become a manufacturing hotspot with all the minerals you have.

Arabs don’t know the value of money, Africans don’t know the value of what they have.

yes. the arab league is now a humanatarian bloc. its useful for access to education for the average citizen.

We couldve benefitted from the arab league. All we had to do was not level the country, and the horn wouldve been ours.

Millions of diaspora muslims looking for a muslim oasis to relate to travel too, and us being african and part of the unions on a coast helps. Not worrying about gaalos hatred for ur religion.

These ppl and they ayeeyos would travel and retire on our coast. We wouldve had protest all over the ummah/ west too free ogaden with majority voice being "outsiders".

Now eithopia wants in the union as they see their christian union as supremacist who would not share advancement with.

Fck these leeches riding our coatail of networking

Tbh they deserved to be in it since Arabic is widely taught in there where the state media has an Arabic only language news channel with local medias offering Arabic segments particularly in Tigray and Oromia regions

Cuz you kebessawis didn't want that
Partly but you gotta remember that Eritrea was fighting EIJ at that point and was near the epicentre of a radicalist uprising. Even Osama was hiding out in Sudan at the time (there’s a story of how Eritrea nearly merked Osama 8 years before the Americans did but that’s for another day). Add in the fact that Eritrea was vying for an American support and a base on its soil, probably wouldn’t have been smart to join in the early 2000’s.

Also, we had issues with Yemen and Sudan (who had both joined the TPLF led Sanaa Forum) so it’s hard to see how accession into the Arab League would/could have played out
