So throughout his campaign Trudeau has promised electoral reform. He re-iterated his plan today to destroy FPTP (First past the post) and reform the entire electoral system by next election.http://www.canada.com/news/trudeau announces plan kill first past post next election/11451666/story.html
First past the post voting example:
Candidate C wins the election, while receiving 32 of 94 votes. The main criticism with this system is that it encourages tactical voting and converges us towards a two party system. People are going to be more inclined to vote for one of the two candidates they think will most likely win, even if they want another third or fourth candidate to win. They won't have any incentive to vote for any candidates outside of the top two because they think their vote would be wasted (and it is) and have no final impact on the result. So basically what happened this election and how everyone ditched the NDP.
Will he really abolish the system that was responsible of putting him in power in the first place If so, he's earned my respect. I'm very wary about all these promises though.
