Elder in Bosaso: ''Our system should be tailor fit for us and our society''

Elder in Bosaso:

"Qabil is a serious agent . It's only bad when you use it against someone. The rest of the time it's for safety."
"Clan system was never a problem, until we had to form a government. Politicians worldwide say anything to get seats. Not unique to us." "Our personal problem is politicizing Clan to gain political power. We need to find a way to separate these two things. Deadly combination."

"What we have always suggested is to make clan an official institution in Somalia. Clan matters discussed in front of an elders senate."

"What these politicians are doing now is foreign to us. It's fake governance so the criminals can loot and the foreigners can rip us off."

"This is a harness to keep us divided and weak so they can create a corrupt elite. That's how majority of African nations function anyway."

We are trying to fit Somali people into a western political system. ''Our system should be tailor fit for us and our society."

Elders are the most useless things in existence the best thing the south ever did was not listen to them:stopit:

You are not making a point. The south is the most corrupt violent unstabile region in Somalia. If they didn't listen to the elders then that would make sense.

Median age in Somalia is 15... so half are even younger than that.

The masses need to be kept in check and that's what these elders are for.

I think creating a seperate institution to deal with clan related matters is really a good idea honestly. We can no longer ignore that we have a particular social structure that needs to be accommodated.

Saaxiib take your nonsensical calaacal somewhere else. What you say makes no sense at all.
I see everything I said went over your head all the successful government have little to no elders involvement for a reason but unfortunately that go against your thread:yloezpe:

Ok shall i address why it doesnt make sense and is just nonsensical calaacaling.

1) The fact that the South was unable to balance modern institutions with traditional was the reason for instability and lack of reconciliation between clans and hence the reason why the south compared to the north and west Somalia has not has not had a functional governance or stability. So yes it has alot to do with not including elders into the picture why the south is disasterous.

2)All the sucsessful governments in the world put in place political systems that are compatible to their social & political/societal structure. You cannot compare Apples with Oranges. Everyone has to implement systems that what fit with them and go their own path.

3) The corrupt elite is mainly from the diaspora, they exclude the local Somali civilian populous from engaging in the discussion of nation building & governance in a population where 80% are under the age 35 , its suitible to have experienced elders to guide them ,transplant knowledge & monitor them, invest in them. So yes they have a crucial role in this.

The whole thread wasnt about elders becoming president or prime ministers it was about seperating clan from politics and giving it a seperate institution of its own where we can discuss & resolve such matters. Later prevent production of corrupt elite who use clan as an agent to carry out wrong doings.

The best to happen in Puntland was the sidelining of the Issims. They are a bunch of illiterate, shortsighted old men who are out of touch.
Now, they see how elders in Somaliland have some political representation and want something like that. It will never happen, these old men must be stripped of all but ceremonial power, their time is over.

@Freebandz you are spot on, way too many qabils in the south and each of them mixed together. We need not to function like clan enclaves.

This odeys stifle the economy as well and are part and parcel of the corruption.

Our elders don't get involved in politics and are there to keep the peace. Boqor Burhaan, Islaan Bashir, Islaan Isse are all respected and when they speak no one dares to speak. They're there to mediate disputes amongst other things.

Anything south of Galkayo though no one cares for elders since they're mostly opportunists and new to the scene. The men I've mentioned are sons of previous leaders like Boqor Muse and Islaan Farah so it's nothing new to us. May Allah preserve our elders.:kendrickcry:

Do Hawiye even have elders though? The only one I remember is that Axmed diriye fool always going on radios threatening clans. No wonder Baraxley to xamar is a mess.:meleshame:
