Markets in Somali cities in the Horn are where foreign exchange is regulated in Somalia, SR, etc. In other words, the cost of living and inflation are controlled by the traders in these markets since what we have is a dollarized economy. They sort of act as our central bank.

Did you all remember in the 1990s and 2000s, the traders in the Bakara Market used to regulate foreign exchange? Then it was affected by the war between Al-Shabaab and TNG/FGS backed by AMISOM. Then these other markets propped up and filled the void.

Perhaps someone is having an issue with this uncontrolled trade that is having an impact on everything else. Remember how our hawala system used to bring so much scrutiny everywhere? It is not a coincidence major markets are getting burned one after another.
