Every couple of years, there is a drought that occurs in Somalia, killing hundreds of thousands of people. Why don’t the Somali people build or create a way to collect water from the two rivers we have? The government is basically non-existent and the most corrupt in the world, so why don’t the people build it themselves instead of waiting for another drought like idiots? Work for free so your people, kids, and even your grandkids could enjoy it. That’s why I really don’t believe Somalis are actually smart. Every couple of years, this drought comes and kills people, and our people start begging and becoming refugees by the millions. Somalia is not a third-world country but a fourth-world country, just playing dumb and expecting someone to help them like the USA or Europe.

Bruh dams are not easy thing to build it's not like house it needs well educated engineers and large construction equipments and many steel and concrete plants.

These people especially the southern don’t care to build the lands. In puntland and Somaliland there is dams to hold the waters in case of draught or no rains. Why not implement these dam systems in southern Somalia?

The issue is not intelligence but logistics and resources.

The kind of infrastructure development you speak of is hampered by things like sheer poverty, corruption, lack of trust, etc. There are just too many obstacles that outweigh the incentives.

I have seen it firsthand projects get shelved for reasons you wouldn't believe. There are students back home that have created tech with the most minimal resources but they don't get the support needed.

The public sphere's disappeared that's the real problem. Every inch of land is claimed or owned by someone the other people you speak of have trusted public institutions and governments that have the public support.

This is what we call infrastructure. It is paid for and continually maintained by the State through taxes.

Individuals or people in some Tuulo cannot do these things.

There is a limit to what people can do. Have you ever been to Somalia for any extended period? Seen how the country operates.

A lot of the stuff you are assuming are natural qualities of 'the people' are actually based on very long periods of continued investment, inherited positive institutions and culture and education.

If you see certain regions at least, you will see that they did a lot on their own but private enterprise on the scale of few individuals or rural communities simply don't have the capacity for the kind of things that are needed.

As a very simple example, you talk about building dams and stuff. This already happens in multiple regions on a small scale - but the kind of large reservoirs needed in difficult to reach places needs a large institution to undertake it- this institution needs tech, paid employees, specialist equipment and the roads to even be able to get to the out of reach area and presumably state authority to either buy the land to be transformed from its owners / those who have claim to it. This is a very simple short example and it already has all these considerations.

Maybe you can go there and start something not being sarcastic at all

@Nin123 Is right here. You can genuinly do things on your own, if you have multiple people who are willing to do good for the community. Since we don't have very deep rivers you can build small dams.

Climate change is the main reason for these huge death tolls. Before, there weren't many famines let alone ones that killed so many people. As for why they can't deal with them, well how are you supposed to build anything without funding from the government? Public projects are supposed to be handled by state or federal governments. The north is somewhat capable of doing this but the south is way poorer and weaker.
