This is a daring push to diversify the African economy I whole heartedly welcome it, are there still elephants in the somali peninsula?

I only wish they don't harm these endangered species and do it in a more ethical manner perhaps.

Only in the lag-badana bushpark. We went from having one of the highest elephant populations in the 80s, which was around 20k, to virtually extinct. There‘s also a pretty big population in border regions of oromia and the Somali region in Ethiopia but it’s looking grim across the board.

Siyaad Barre was exposed for mass culling elephants while he was in power by both the US and UK embassies at the time.

They stated that he had stockpiles of ivory in Mogadishu warehouses that were large enough to manipulate global prices.

Now where is the large stockpile of ivory? :francis: Seized by foreigners? Sold by corrupt warlords for pennies?

Well considering everything was looted in 1991, I assume it joined the list.

But then again, it was legal to sell ivory when Barre had those stockpiles. By 1991, it was illegal and had to be sold on the black market.

Zimbabwe farmers are having their crops destroyed by elephants. They have too many elephants that it's ruining the ecosystem. Botswana legalized hunting in order to tackle the problem and obviously eco fascist that have contempt for humans start throwing a hissy fit.
