North Yemen is Shia majority nation. They were a Shia kingdom until they became a republic in the 70s.
You got some screws lose. Hadi is South Yemeni and is Sunni that's why North Yemen is under Houthi rebel control.
South Yemen left their socialist past for a Salafi/Islamic one.
South Yemen has a huge Sunni majority with oil deposits and resources which gets taken by North Yemenis for their government.
