From nurse to multi-million euro healthcare company owner in two years

When Fadumo Ali said two years ago that she was quitting her job as a nurse and starting her own business, people told her she was crazy. Now her company, Hoiwa, has a turnover in the millions of euros.

Fadumo Ali’s company, Hoiwa, is an agency that provides nurses to healthcare and medical treatment units and plans improvements for the service level of home-based care. The company’s office, founded in 2020, already has a headcount of ten and 2,500 healthcare professionals on its list.

In 2020, the agency’s turnover was half a million euros and in its second financial year it was already 4.2 million.

“I’m grateful to Finland, the country I arrived in 32 years ago as a little girl. This country has given me amazing opportunities, and I’ve tried to use them as best I can,” Fadumo Ali said in her speech on Tuesday, when she was awarded Espoo Entrepreneur of the Year.

The Espoo entrepreneurs who chose Ali for the award said that Hoiwa Oy has employed many immigrants, who face difficulties in finding work. Another reason for the award was that the agency is able to offer its employees above-average pay and good working conditions.

“This recognition shows that even refugee children can find their own path in Finland and generate good for a lot of people,” Fadumo Ali said in her speech.

She also said she wants to make a difference to ensure that where you come from does not matter in Finland.

“So that everyone has the opportunity to dream, run a business and succeed. So that as many people as possible can feel that hard work is rewarded.”

Now, Hoiwa Oy aims to expand its operations internationally and go public.

Difficult beginning

Starting out as a business owner was not easy, however. When she started out, Ali was a single mother of four and beginning studies to become a diabetes nurse.

“Scheduling is a challenge, but I have to strike while the iron is hot now that my business has got off to a good start,” Ali said in a 2020 interview with Suomen Yrittäjät.

Her company was in high demand right from the start, as there was an acute need for nurses in the spring of 2020 during Covid. That demand levelled off in the summer, and nurses went elsewhere for summer work. In the autumn, the company had to ramp its operations up again. As a small operator, it was difficult to gain a position as a recognized subcontractor.

One of Hoiwa’s first subcontracting agreements was bad, too.

“I won’t be turned into cheap labour. I went to talk to the client face to face and negotiated with them to get all of my terms into the contract,” Ali said in 2020.

Ali, who has lived in Finland since early childhood, told Suomen Yrittäjät in 2020 that she has faced prejudice. She did not manage to open a business account with the first bank she talked to but was never told why she was unsuitable as a business customer.

Her language skills were also tested.

“They want to see if I can say and understand everything. The assumption is that I don’t speak Finnish and that I can’t stick up for myself. Those assumptions usually evaporate when I meet a client in person and people get to know me. I have a strong personality and I’m a straight shooter,” Ali said in 2020.

She’s the daughter of this guy

Now ask yourself this, did she earn it on her own ?
Daddy runs politics back in the number 1 corrupt country in the world.

I’m not saying she did by her own will power but she ain’t the daughter of a typical taxi driver. She’s the daughter of Feysal Waraabe.

And your point is? The most her father did is probably lend her money. People usually borrow money from the bank or family in the beginning when starting a business , but the ideas, the work and business savvy mindset that goes in ect is usually very much the person. And to make things even more impressive, she's a mother of 4 kids.

Stop hating adeero and get to work.

I would agree with @Grigori Rasputin to some extent: it’s not interesting if she came in a wealthy background.

however, is still a good story to see a minority winning And achieving while facing some form of discrimination for her passion to success.

Sol

?
I keep telling people but if anyone opens a Somali run nursing home like the Asians have here they'll make a killing and by nursing home I don't mean a place they need to sleep just a place they get picked up in the morning and congregate with others of their own age to chat and socialise with and then get taken back home. The Asians in the UK have been doing this for a while and has been very beneficial for their elderly who live with them

I am just saying that her father ain’t your father. She is the daughter of a long time profiteer of Somali politics. She ain’t from a cab driving or welfare mooching father.

Majority of Geeljires don’t borrow money from the bank adeer. Are you leaning towards gaalnimo in your wicked defense of her. You borrow money from the bank you are guaranteed to pay an interest.

Give me a break adeer

Btw I’m still waiting for you to congratulate me on my latest marriage.

I doubt her father is some sort of multimillionaire. Having a comfortable Somali abo doesn't change much apart from a comfortable childhood as usually Somalis tend to have big families, sometimes multiple wives ect, so the money doesn't stretch that much for the father to be giving one child hundreds of thousands of dollars.

It doesn’t matter.

Regardless what happened behind close doors it doesn’t effect us. there‘s always a story when a person succeeds.

She‘s a minority and a single mother with children’s.

that should be the highlight for any inspirational entrepreneurs.

Focus on the struggle.

Please stop your nonsense. Do you even know Feysal Waraabe. He does not have a second wife. He is married to profiteering from Somali Politics. He has run for SL Presidency for freakin 4 times. He is a king maker in SL politics. He receives money through back door deals. He owns a freakin party. He visits foreign countries to get his palm greases. The man is sitting on no less than $5m.
Again I repeat, this chick’s dad ain’t your dad or so many xaliimo’s dad.

Opening a business in Finland is not that easy with all the taxes and what not, never to mention that the biggest step is getting customers or getting approval from public sector as a their provider agency for nurses. Seeing successful one especially from a foreigner is astonishing.

:faysalwtf: :faysalwtf:

so she is a good business women but was a crap wife
hence why she is a single mother?
Its silly to assume that the issue is always the wife. The issue could have easily have been the husband. Women ask for divoce from crap men all the time. Or even more sad, some people are simply not compatible and the issue is neither.

Also, get a bit of manners. Its Ramadan and focus on your own marriage. For all we know, you could be a crap husband who can't even keep a woman happy and it wouldn't even surprise me with the mindset you have. Plus, this is about a successful Somali opening a great business not their marital life.
