So I was shopping with my hooyo a few days ago and this Madow woman built like a tank (I think she was Jamaican) threatened to get physical with her after an argument. I can't lie I was a bit nervous bc I have never hit a woman in my life and it looked like I was going to need punch this dameer like a man in order to take her down but thankfully it didn't come down to that.

Would you guys ever hit a woman? and what would justify it.

I would have defused the situation short of violence. It could deteriorate to the point of gravely bodily harm, or to homicide and it isn’t worth it. I never hit a person in anger and the only time I will hit a person (both genders) is when I’m in grave danger and my survival depends on it. Other than that, she can slap or punch me and I will never retaliate. I was never in that kind of a predicament because I always defuse that sort of a situation.

I understand sometimes it's unavoidable given certain situation but we should try our best not to get violent. self defense should be a last resort like if u have ur back against a wall, the first one should be walking away. You invoke your allah and yet, you lack sabr and patience and want to hit a lady who is only screaming with profanities and not using violence against the OP’s mother. She could be mentally sick or under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Even if she is not, why can’t you follow your religion and tolerate abusive people? According to legend, your prophet have been insulted, dished at extreme verbal abuse and how did he react? Why did they claim that he showed patience under such provocation?

“You will certainly hear much abuse from the followers of previous books and if you are patient and keep your duty, this is surely a matter of great resolution”. 3:185

Why can’t you Muslim Somalis follow your religion and stop becoming violent when provoked with words?

If words aren't getting through to a woman who is clearly about to strike your mother, what is the course of action, then?
Talking the situation down is the preferable option, but there are a lot of people who just don't listen.
