The share of Asia in the global population gradually increased and reached a peak in 1800 at 68%. In spite of Asia's subsequent record growth during the last fifty years, the continent as a whole has never recovered from the relative demographic stagnation observed through 1800-1950.

I've always said India & China have been in relative decline for over 300 years.

What really surprised me is the increased of the africa population. If you look at the combined population of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania, Mali, Chad and Niger in the 1960 you would have roughly speaking 42 million inhabitants compare that with france the colonial power with a population size of 45 million in the 1960. If france wanted to replace the citizens of these countries they would have still some people to spear. If you go further back in time to 1900 the size difference would further increase.

One big reason that made france formidable in it's european history among many other reasons is it's size. As one guy once said demography is destiny with a larger population one would have a large pole of taxable citizens and enormous military reserves. Increased population even increases gdp size.

True, France was blessed with large fertile lands and access to both the Atlantic and Mediterranean, making it have large access to trade and the new world whilst also having the massive population to fight most of Europe such as the napoleonic wars

The primary superpowers in europe use to consist of france united kingdom and russia while the holy roman empire which later on turned into the austrian empire was a patch work of diverse non united people.

One big reason was because all these three nations had a large population. Later on the german empire and the italian kingdom united, increasing their population in the process and joined the superpowers in europe and started colonising africa.

Africans are gonna starve
Not necessary you see the working force is shrinking in the western world so the africans can possibly fill the gap. Further more with shrinking population it also means shrinking consumer market. The western countries would benefit from the increasing size of the consumer market in africa and would profit allot from selling to them. This might lead to a rapid development in the continent.

Colonialism was basically where overpopulated Europe rushed underpopulated regions
