As Yusuf عليه سلام says in Surah Yusuf

إِنَّ رَبِّى لَطِيفٌۭ لِّمَا يَشَآءُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَلِيمُ ٱلْحَكِيمُ

Your observation is correct that younger people back home seem to be more mature than they are here. Its because they are not hidden from the realities of life as we have it. Its a privilege we have to say the age of maturity is 18. Majority of human history what made you a man was puberty.
