In case you didn’t know, Tiktok is an international version of the Chinese app Douyin.

The Chinese version of Tiktok is completely different to the international version. First of all there is a time restriction so children can’t use Tiktok for more than 40 minutes a day. The content is also completely different. In China, only educational videos are shown promoting engineering, maths, technology, architecture, music and similar interests that increase the creativity in the users and help improve their skill set.

Even if you’re an atheist, your children should be banned from Tiktok, which is why the app is designed completely differently in China. Now as Muslims, it’s even worse for us as it’s corrupting the deen of the youth and normalising degeneracy.

But how can you ban your children from using an app that all their friends, classmates, and society uses whilst living in the West? They will get brainwashed into thinking they are being oppressed. It’s a tough situation.

As a parent the best you can do is influence your kids to take interest in more constructive activities but they would need to have a very strong interest in whatever those activities are for them to resist the corruptive nature of social media. Outright banning them from using the apps is only going to make them take more of an interest in them (Streissand effect) so you would need to guide them away from social media to the best of your ability.

Children with good and close relationships with their parents will delete/not download these social media apps when requested. It's not hard to convince them if you were always reasonable and good to them. They will take your concerns seriously if you dont have a history of being overbearing on them. Its only a concern for uninvolved parents.

My cousin banned tv for his kids until they grew up and found out other kids from school.

Now he he brought tv but they have set time for them. The kids listen to their parents because they have been in their lives; taking them to play soccer and other sports.

If I’m being completely honest, TikTok is just a small part of a wider problem. Pretty much all online platforms leave your children susceptible to corruption. Ideally, I would raise my kids to spend as little time online as possible. Make them engage with extracurricular activites like sports and the arts, make sure they are an active member of their church (or in your case masjid). These together along with encouraging academic studies will set your kids up to lead satisfying lives without the need to engage in debauchery and online degeneracy

I would warn him about the bad side of TikTok. That's all. He can use social media as he wants. I think it will be hypocritical of me to deny him social media when my parents didn't

This is so funny. Woe is Chinese walaahi. They are the new hated Race. Woe to Chinese-- Yeah to Yudud looool

it's also really bad for their brain because it gives too much dopamine at once, and lowers attention span. kids who watch tiktok can't even sit through a movie anymore. They want that short burst of content.

I only hate the infinite scrolling model of TikTok, at least with Reddit it’s gets worse the further down you scroll but TikTok keeps you hooked.

also Chinese children don’t have the freedom western kids have, so there’s nothing to envy there.

It’s a hard thing to do if children are raised in the west. The fitnah of sm will come at them from a very young age. Most people normally do anything and everything to fit in as well. It takes a person with strong convictions to go against the grain.

In this case, parents can only do so much. No matter how well they raised their kids, the fitnah will hit them in the face. I believe parents should do their best by being examples first. Then, they should always make dua for their offspring to be guided and protected. Guidance is only from Allah.
